Wild Flower Lovers Hike: Fort Ord (Creekside Entrance)

Hike Fort Ord NM Wed April 16th . Hike starts at 10:00 am (because there is less wind). The hike starts and returns to the Creekside Terrace parking lot. This hike is moderately easy. It is three to four miles, undulating maybe a total of a few hundred feet. This hike will be a different as we will be looking for wild flowers!! Our pace will be very slow!!! Bring your wild flower book!! I hope that there will be some of the flowers that I saw last year: sky lupin, miniature lupin, white lupin, pacific pea, blue eyed-grass, woodland star, poison oak (yes it has flowers too), baby blue-eyes, blue fiesta flowers, black sage, hedge nettle, suncups, cream cups, red maids, miners lettuce, shooting stars, blue larkspur, Calif. blackberry, owls clover, Chinese houses, indian warrior, common star lily and California Golden Poppy's.....all of these in the first 1/2 mile (last year).

Don't forget to bring your wild flower book, camera, water and LUNCH!!

Directions: From Marina, or Hwy 1, take Reservation Road to Portola Drive. That intersection is fifty feet from Hwy 68. From Salinas exit Hwy 68 at Reservation road. Turn right. Make an immediate left. From Monterey exit Hwy 68 at Reservation Road. Turn left under the freeway. Make an immediate left on to Portola Drive. Portola Drive becomes Creekside Terrace at the next intersection. Follow Portola/Creekside Terrace through the gate and to the parking lot.

Very few of the flower names will be remembered ever but the everlasting impression is that of incredible variety & beauty in tiny wild flowers. Was completely blown away by the sheer number of wild flowers... what an education & eye opener for me. Thank you Ted.

What a glorious day! 80 different wildflower species in a 3 mile hike, each tiny flower a perfect miracle. Thank you, Ted, for leading us to them and sharing a wealth of information.

Ted, Thank You!! I learned so much today. I enjoyed the way you presented all the various types of flowers and appreciated the list of flowers to take notes on. My goal is to know at least 10 more flowers by common name.
