Are you planning on hiking this weekend? Consider joining the Monterey Bay Area Hiking Group and the Ventana Wilderness Alliance on Saturday, September 25th for an all-day, 100% volunteer trail maintenance initiative along the Vicente Flat Trail in the beautiful unspoiled Ventana Wilderness. Come join like-minded fellow hikers as we brush & clear approximately 1.5 miles of the Vicente Flat Trail just below the Central Coast Ridge Road. You'll be treated to gorgeous coastal views of the southern Big Sur Coast with towering Cone Peak looming large just beyond Hare Canyon. Add to this the FUN you're guaranteed to have while enjoying the opportunity to give back to nature and to the trails that we've enjoyed hiking so much. Don't have the right tools?
Not a problem. The V.W.A. will bring all the necessary tools and equipment we'll need for the day.Don't know how to brush and clear a forest trail?
Not a problem. We'll be given special training at the start of the day to learn how to properly brush and clear trails.
Public participation in this event is important for several reasons, notably:
-Source: http://www.publiclandsday.org/about/index.htmWhat do I need to participate in National Public Lands Day?
- Educates Americans about critical environmental and natural resources issues and the need for shared stewardship of these valued, irreplaceable lands;
- Builds partnerships between the public sector and the local community based upon mutual interests in the enhancement and restoration of America's public lands;
- Improves public lands for outdoor recreation, with volunteers assisting land managers in hands-on work.
Bring your day pack with adequate food, water, snacks, and anything else you might ordinarily pack with you for a long day hike.
