Jacks Peak County Park, located in the hills overlooking Monterey, is a great spot for a refreshing, early afternoon hike. This venue offers trails with minimal elevation change and great views of Monterey Bay and Carmel.
Total Distance: 4-5 miles
Elevation Gain: around 500 feet
Difficulty: easy to slightly moderate.
Duration: around 2 hours
Meeting location: west parking lot in the Park. After passing the entrance station, turn right and travel until large parking area/restrooms. I will be in green Toyota Tacoma pickup with Meetup Sign on hood. There is a vehicle fee to enter the park. No staff on duty, will need to self-register; however, law enforcement personnel frequently will check for park payment on parked cars and will not hesitate to write citation for not paying . Dogs are welcome, rain will cancel.
From Salinas, travel westerly towards Monterey on Hwy 68 to Olmstead Road. Turn left at Olmstead and proceed 1 mile to Jacks Peak Road. Turn left on Jacks Peak Road and travel 1.3 miles to the Park Entrance Station. After registering, turn right and travel to the parking area.
From Monterey/Carmel/Santa Cruz: from the junction of State Hwy 1 and State Hwy 68, travel 1.5 miles to the east (towards Salinas) to Olmstead Drive. Turn right onto Olmstead Drive and proceed 1 mile to Jacks Peak Drive. Turn left on Jacks Peak Drive and proceed 1.3 miles to the Park Entrance station. After registering/paying fee, turn right and travel to the parking area.
