The Monterey Bay Area Hiking Group is for people who enjoy hiking the beautiful outdoors while socializing with other like-minded individuals. We explore many areas throughout the Monterey Peninsula, BigSur/ Ventana Wilderness, and Santa Cruz Mountains. On occasion, we will offer events out of the area, such as in the Sierra Nevada or Cascade Range.

We offer a variety of hiking activities for people of all ages. Expect to see easy to intermediate hikes of 4-10 miles in total length. There will also be some moderate to strenuous hikes of 12-15 miles (particularly for many of the backcountry hikes in the Ventana Wilderness). And to suit the extreme tastes of those who enjoy a more challenging type of activity, we will have several very strenuous 20+ mile hike events that will provide opportunities for even deeper exploration of the backcountry wilderness.

Most hikes will be scheduled on weekends along with the occasional weekday and/or holiday hike. Also, during summer months when evenings are warm, there will be some after work / evening hikes (e.g. moonlight or starlight hikes at the Pinnacles or beach walks). For those interested in multi-day activities, there will be some backpacking/camping trips scheduled during the spring, summer, and autumn seasons.

Hiking can be a dangerous and unpredictable activity. It is ALWAYS recommended you bring sufficient supplies of drinking water, snacks/food, a small first aid kit, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a flashligt to all outdoor activities. Of equal importance is that you have the proper type of footwear and clothing. Please match the hike to your skill level.
