Mt Shasta and Waterfalls

Join me Thurs Sept 27-Monday Oct 1st on a trip up North to Mt Shasta and beyond. We'll explore some of the lakes and waterfalls in the area, stopping at Mossbrae, Hedge Creek and Burney Falls.

Plan on doing a little hiking in the woods, and perhaps a tippy toe on the slopes Mt Shasta. So pack your hiking boots, grab your photo gear and get ready for a road trip! We'll base camp at Mt Shasta for our first 3 nights with do one last night at Burney Falls. FYI-- the full moon is on 9/30.

As always you're responsible for your own transportation, meals and reservations. If you have walkie talkies, bring them. I have a pair.

I'm booked to stay at Mt Shasta City KOA, 900 Shasta Ave. I'm reserved at site "F" for 3 nights. Checking in on 9/27 and checking out on 9/30. Rates are as follow: $37.40/nite for RV camping )includes water and electrical hook ups). Tent camping $25.30/nite. Tent camping with electrical hook up $28.00/nite.

KOA has nice clean showers and plenty of restaurants nearby. Plan on bringing something to eat that will get you on the road for early morning starts, We can either pack lunches of possible stop for a bite as we visit various shoot locations. I am planning on preparing most of my own meals, but you can visit any of the local eateries. Friday night will be a special dinner hootenany...it's Georges birthday. BYOB.

Our last night will be at Burney Falls at 23.00/night. No fancy hook ups, just tent camping under the shady trees. After Sept 16, no reservations are required. First come first served. We'll be arriving on a Sunday and most campers clear out by then, so I have been told we should have plenty of camping sites to select from. Clean showers and great fishing at this location (if you're so inclined, CA Fish and Game regs apply).

Please be sure to check in with me when you arrive. I hope to get there early enough to set up camp and possibly take off to shoot a sunset. If you miss me at camp, I may be in the boonies without cell connection. Check back at SITE "F" later or leave me a note to let me know which site you're at so we can pow wow about the mornings agenda.

EMAIL BEFORE YOU HIT THE ROAD FOR MY PHONE NUMBER. I have a pair of walkie talkies. If you have 'em, bring them.

The falls were great with fairly easy hikes. We also went to Shasta Caverns and Burney Falls. Photos coming after I return from the Eastern Sierra Fall Colors Trips. Too bad only one other shooter besides, myself showed up. I think it may be time to charge big money for these long distance trips. My efforts, expense, experience and time clearly aren't valued at the low, low, price of FREE.

I'm pulling my camper trailer along on this trip. I can carry a passenger with tent to split expenses. HEADS UP: Fire reports indicate visibility in the area is heavily affected. Containment may take as long as a month. However thunder showers are expected and that should help immensely. I'm intending to book a camp site at the KOA in Shasta City. I'm holding off pending fire reports as we get a little closer to our departure date. All that said, our trip is a month away. I'm optimistic about the air quality. Our shoot sites will consist of several waterfall sites and the panoramic opportunities will still be plentiful in spite of fire damage. Not much snow on top of Mt Shasta this time of year, but we're not planning to snow shoe on this trip anyways. That'll be another outing and winter is right around the corner! So stay tuned!

to get an idea of scale... take a look in the lower right hand corner. See the two people? This fall is almost the width of a football field. It's amazing!

Oh this sounds like so much fun! I love this area too. I'll be on vacation and can't come. I'll be anxiously awaiting your photographs!
