Kal, the answer is actually in the trip RSVP details above. It pretty much covers it. But, to expand on it a bit
There has been a rash of last minute cancellations, no shows for these trips to boot. So, without any financial skin in the trip, it is far too easy to commit and then flake at the last minute.
After 1.5 years of running this group as a labor of love, it has gotten to be a problem. And financially we can't keep it up. So we are making a change.
The fee provides the following:
incentive to show up and reduce no shows
provide insurance to the organizers who spend all this time to plan these trips, take time off, etc that people are going to show.
For context, there are MANY MANY photo meetup groups that charge to participate in field trips. Our fees assessed by comparison a quite small.
We don't charge the fees to make a profit here, just to encourage thoughtful RSVP's and a bit of insurance for us that folks are not going to just no show

Refunds offered if:
Additional notes: Refunds only issued in the event of a complete wash-out due to rain for the weekend. No-Shows, Cancellations, etc do not constitute terms for a refund of fees charged.
Payments you make go to the organizer, not to Meetup. You must make refund requests to the organizer.
