Afternoon Shoot during the Holidays: Mission San Juan Bautista

Member's have asked repeatedly for another visit to Mission San Juan Bautitsa over the last year.  I've been looking for a reason to return and have decided to set up a sequel, but having us shoot in late afternoon before sunset.

We will meet at the historic Mission San Juan Bautista in late afternoon before the visitors center closes and sunset.  This is a great place to explore and photograph before people start to wander through the Mission.

The focus of this field trip will be film-based photography using medium and large format cameras.  All are welcome to join (digital & film), but the focus for the organizer will be shooting with film and giving advice on how to get the most out of analog, advanced depth of field, and long duration exposures.

Starting November 2012, all field trips organized by Art Fernandez (founder of this group) will be run based upon a lottery system to participate and be confirmed as an RSVP.

Also, there will be a mandatory field trip fee charged to all participants that are confirmed as attendees.

The reason for these changes is that this group has been run as a labor of love for the last 1.5 years, but the number of last minute cancellations, no shows, and group dynamics have changed.  In order to ensure that the time, effort, and energy put into planning these trips are not wasted, I am personally moving to a lottery & fee based system given the time and energy required of me to plan and participate in these trips.

We are accepting people on our waitlist for this trip today.  RSVP Lottery announcements will be made on 11/19!!!!!

If the forecast calls for greater than 40% Chance of Showers, the meetup will be reschedule for the following day.  In the event of a complete rainout, the meetup will be cancelled.

Kal, the answer is actually in the trip RSVP details above. It pretty much covers it. But, to expand on it a bit

There has been a rash of last minute cancellations, no shows for these trips to boot. So, without any financial skin in the trip, it is far too easy to commit and then flake at the last minute.

After 1.5 years of running this group as a labor of love, it has gotten to be a problem. And financially we can't keep it up. So we are making a change.

    The fee provides the following:

incentive to show up and reduce no shows
provide insurance to the organizers who spend all this time to plan these trips, take time off, etc that people are going to show.

For context, there are MANY MANY photo meetup groups that charge to participate in field trips. Our fees assessed by comparison a quite small.

We don't charge the fees to make a profit here, just to encourage thoughtful RSVP's and a bit of insurance for us that folks are not going to just no show

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
