Finally! Another Picnic! - River Trail - Pawlings Rd to Betzwood Picnic Tables!

  • Pawlings Road Trailhead

Within Sight of Cross Streets of Pawlings Rd and Gertrude Ave. , Pheonixville, PA (map)

    41.203323 -77.194527

  • GPS Coordinates: [masked],[masked]
  • It's finally warmed up enough to do this again!  Sunday (so far) will be mid -50s and sunny!  This trail hugs the north side Schuylkill River. A nice flat course with beautiful foliage (the leaves are starting to turn!) on one side and the river on the other. Trains on the other side of the river make their presence known every half hour or so.

This is an easy one! (On weekends the band works, I only do easy!!!) This hike is a "there and back" and will be approximately 7 miles in length. We'll meet at the Pawlings Road Trailhead, hike 3-1/2 miles to Betzwood, where they have picnic tables (and hopefully the restrooms are open). Allow 2-3 hours to hike the trail plus a little time to eat. This is a scenic and easy hike with no hills.

The trail, is mostly gravel and always has the river in sight. You may want to bring water, picnic lunch for yourself, snacks, camera, a friend . . .  This will be a joint hike with the friendly people of Harry's Happy Hikers!

    GPS Coordinates:[masked],[masked]

Finding the trailhead is easiest when you picture it's location relative to the highways.

If you're coming from the Pheonixville direction, the trailhead is your first right after crossing the river.

If you're coming from the Audobon direction, the trailhead is on the left after you pass Gertrude Avenue.

If using GPS or printing a map, use the cross streets Pawlings Road and Gertrude Ave in Pheonixville. You will see the Trailhead from there.

Look for smiling faces!!  Look for a Dark Green Audi tt with a roof rack.  Give friends hugs!

Try to arrive by 11:45 AM. We will leave promptly at 12:00PM.

If you get lost or lonely, call Ben at[masked]-8558.

    Hope to see you there!!!

Hi People. I'm afraid the weather has beat us on this one. This storm is going right over us and will not be past or around us tomorrow morning like I had hoped. So I'm going to cancel this hike and repost it for next Sunday. Hope to see you then!

I'll probably be a bit late but looking at the description of out and back trail seems like I can probably catch up.

Hi Adele, No problem for us to wait a few minutes, we usually do anyway. And if you're close, just call. I don't mind waiting if I'm sure someone's coming.

no! I may be 15 minutes late! Don't wait, I'd hate to hold up the group that much. Of course if it's raining and my other meetup event that will make me late gets canceled I will be on time. But please don't wait it puts too much pressure on me and I'd feel too bad for being that person holding the whole group up!

My dog loves to hike with me. Are dogs allowed on this walk? He's 10 years old, stays on leash and loves to be outside.

Hi Julia, I'm quite sure dogs are allowed on the trail, leashed of course. The picnic may be tricky, as some people might want a dog kept away from their food. You know your dog's behavior and will need to keep some distance between him and those that don't feel like "sharing".
