Last-minute Sacramento/Gold Country mini-meet.

This is a last-minute scouting run for later, more organized run in the area... call it a "mini-meet."

The course is a run up I-80 out of Sacramento to Auburn, get off for HWY49 north through Grass Valley, over to Nevada City, taking HWY20 to I80 down to I-80 back to Sac. A map of what I'm thinking:

Meet at the Starbucks around Scandia sometime near 8.

I'm planning to head up to North Highlands in the early morning to see my folks around breakfast, and my gf around lunch. In the time between there's time to scout some of the roads up there for a more official run later because there are other good routes to take up there.

After the scouting, no on 20 out of Nevada City, no on 174 out of Grass Valley.

On 20, the passing lanes are few, and traffic like RV's, semi's, and even a minivan using a Datsun Roadster as a trailer held only by chains (some people just need to be in a coma) it's not worth the few twisties out to I80.

Highway 174 is a no not because it isn't a good road, but because it's a 45 zone and has many blind driveways that make even that speed dangerous. It's fine for Sunday drives, but having a little more fun is probably not suggested. I'll see about some stretches south of Auburn, like 193/Georgetown.

hi, sorry if its a dumb question, I just joined this group and I was under the impression that it was based in Jessup MD, not California?

It is based in MD, but there is a Northern California spin off. There are a few California members on here, and there's been some itching for another run. I cover from Sacramento/Motherlode (historic gold rush area) down toward Yosemite.
