(Road Bike) Leon Creek [Intermediate]

We will begin at the Mainland Trailhead just off of Bandera Road and then follow the Leon Creek Greenway.

This ride will be on the paved areas.  We will ride for about 90 minutes or more.  Try to come early because parking and traffic can be difficult at this time of day.  We will meet by the shelter.

Our speed will be about 13- 17 mph. We will take a 3 to 4 minute break about every 4 miles.

We are going to ride the sidewalk from Mainland all the way to 1604 and back.  There will be lots of people walking, running, skateboarding, rollerblading, and bicycling so we will need to maneuver around all this.

When we ride we will have some rest stops along the way to let everyone catch their breath. I will only be there if there are people who RSVP "YES" by the RSVP deadline.

Meet at:

We are meeting at the Mainland Trailhead parking lot. It is next to the WalMart and behind the apartment complex on Bandera road.
Look for the white and grey road bike. I will probably be wearing black shorts and a blue shirt. See you there.

Rain cancels this event.

The deadline to rsvp "Yes" for this meetup is 0 days before the ride.

Good to see everyone. I had a good workout and street tacos were tasty.

I agree. Good tacos. There is a street taco vendor with a facility that is twice as big at Callaghan and Bandera. Might try them someday.

Good fast ride. Not as fast as other times. There were more people and bicyclists on the trails today. Kind of crowded. Everybody working on their superhero bodies. And then we went to eat tacos. Good conversation. You know how they teach us some scripted behavior when we are in middle school? I did not know what to do. How do you order? what do you say? What does this mean? How much does it cost? When do we pay? My first experience buying tacos from a street vendor.

I'm going to have to pass guys. Hitting the pool tomorrow after work...I'm pretty sure I'll be too exhausted. I'll keep looking out though.

I also can't make it. I have to take the dog to the vet... Anyone want to ride Saturday morning or Sunday evening?

I'm a intermediate rider for the road, but I'm not sure about Leon Valley. Never been out there. Can you tell me more about it? Would like to do this.

Yeah...I know there have been accidents on this trail between bikers and those that like to run or walk.

It is a smooth paved path that follows Leon Creek. There is no traffic except pedestrians. We are not riding on the road. There are plenty of trees on the sides of the path to give some shade. There are a few changes in elevation but nothing significant. There are straight areas but there are also many curves. There is a water fountain at the 1604 trailhead. Here is a link to the city website for this park: http://www.sanantonio.gov/parksandrec/greenway_trails_leon.aspx
