Non-Stop -- Leon Creek -- Intermediate Speed (Mountain Bike) 12 Miles

  • Leon Creek Greenway - Mainland Trailhead

8198 Mainland Drive, San Antonio, TX (map)

    29.518112 -98.632068

  • Look for the dark green mountain bike. We will be at the parking lot next to the covered area and park map.
  • We will begin at the Mainland Trailhead just off of Bandera Road and then follow the Leon Creek Greenway. We will try to do this non-stop.  Instead of a stop to rest we will slow down to about 5 mph and coast for about 3 minutes. We will keep riding. We will stop for accidents, flat tires or other mechanical problems, or if your energy is low and you absolutely have to eat something. As we ride If there is any kind of problem or need something then the rider can shout it out.  We will adjust.

Our speed will range from about 8 to 12 mph

This ride will be on mostly dirt trails and some paved areas.  We will ride for about 2 hours.  We will meet by the shelter.  Think of these beginner non-stop rides as training for getting to intermediate level rides.

    The Usual Stuff:

As with any park we mountain bike there are smooth parts and rocky parts and any part that makes you uncomfortable you can walk though it. Make sure you have water, sun block, and wear a helmet.  If you need to rest then shout out to the group to slow the speed down for a few minutes or to stop.  I will only be there if there are people who RSVP "YES" by the RSVP deadline.

    Meet at:

We are meeting at the Mainland Trailhead parking lot. It is next to the WalMart and behind the apartment complex on Bandera road.
Look for the dark green mountain bike. I will probably be wearing black shorts and a blue shirt. See you there.

    Rain cancels this event.

The deadline to rsvp "Yes" for this meetup is 1 days before the ride.

Will be riding the pavement if it's too muddy. May start from Grissom to get 20 miles in. But really want to ride the dirt with you all.

Going to try to beat the rain. I'm going on the earlier ride with Billy.

At this time the heavy rain passed over north San Antonio outside 1604. There may have been lighter rain on Leon Creek. There is a strong storm cell that looks like it will go straight through the middle of the city in another hour unless it breaks apart.

We will try for 14 miles today. Need to build up the distance so that some of you can ride Billy's 25 mile route. I'm sure some of you can do it already. As the sun sets later we will add more distance to these Friday rides.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
