Dear Friends
of Happy Trails;
Here's the latest sanctuary news for this
week!
This weekend on "Animal Talk", meet Buckeye Horse Park
representatives, Kimberly Walter and Sally Kirsch, and learn
about this haven for horse-lovers that is nestled in the heart of Ohio's farm
country in Mahoning County! The Buckeye Horse Park welcomes horse enthusiasts
from across Ohio (and even from neighboring states)! This very unique and
one-of-a-kind horse park in Ellsworth (near Canfield) offers over 7 miles of
riding trails, indoor arenas, box stalls, and hosts horse shows. There are a lot of ways to get involved,
even for people who don't own a horse but would like to be around them! Volunteers are always needed to help with park maintenance, horse shows, and
helping to organize fundraisers and other park events. Listen
to Part 1 on Saturday morning at 9:30am, and be sure to catch
Part 2 on Sunday morning at 10:00am For more info, contact the good folks at the Buckeye Horse
Park through their website at www.buckeyehorsepark.org.
As plans progress, we are getting VERY excited about Happy Trails 10th
Anniversary Farm Tour coming up on Sunday, June 27th! Could
you please help us spread the word? Here's
our flier to share with friends, family and co-workers! We truly
hope you can make it and check out our progress over the last 10 years!
 Plastic Flowers? What in the
world would we want with plastic or artificial flowers? The flowers beds
at Happy Trails look welcoming (and unfortunately tasty), to the chickens who
wish to scratch the flowers out of the way so they can take dirt baths and to
the goats who decide that a special snack is needed. And don't forget the pigs
who enjoy rooting up a the Crocus blubs! Yes, funny but also frustrating! We
are currently collecting outdoor flowers and plants of the artificial variety to
help beautify the grounds and yet are safe for the animals who decide to test
them out in some way. We also use artificial flowers to decorate the graves of
the animals in the pet cemetery. If you have any plastic or artificial flowers
that you would like to donate, they can be placed in a bag and left in the
wooden bins in front of the Happy Trails office at any time during the week. If
you wish to receive a thank you letter and tax deduction, you can leave a note
in the bag with your contact information. Thanks for helping us bring some safe
color into the sanctuary!
Misc. Tidbits! We have a LOT of animal
adoptions in the works! Thanks to your help with passing along fliers and
newsletters, many rescued farm animals and horses are finding caring and
compassionate homes! When working together for the good of the animals,
everybody wins! This weekend is the Happy Trails Mother's Day Tea on Sunday -
if you signed up to sponsor an animal for mom for Mother's Day, this is going to
be a really fun, relaxing day and the animals are all looking forward to
visiting with their sponsors! And look for info on the latest rescued horse in
the next newsletter, when we'll officially welcome Marquis, a retired Amish
Standardbred, into the Happy Trails rescue program! And be sure to keep
checking our ever-changing and evolving website at www.happytrailsfarm.org!
With kindness and
compassion for all animals,
Annette Fisher
