Okay...final prep posting for newbies before this weekend. Typical water temp is 45 degrees F as the water comes from the bottom of the dam. American Whitewater suggested you wear hydroskin pants and wool (or wicking) socks for warmth inside your boat, and a drytop or hydroskin top. I always wear hydroskin gloves even if the water is 75. Bring your skirt to keep those legs warm and dry. Finally if you bring a kayak make certain you load it up with air bladders if it is not bulk-headed. This helps keep the kayak from filling with water if you flip. My setup is a pyranha fusion, a skirt, hydroskin pants, drytop, SR full helmet, hydroskin gloves, split front bladders with my rear bulkhead, a swift water rescue vest with protective plates all around, and a drybag with first aid equipment that stops just shy of being able to give stitches.

Let's be safe out there and make this a flip-free weekend. :)

Michael glad to see you are bringing what seems to be your pet. I doubt seriously a lady friend is called 'Snowball':). I am bringing my girl Easy and yes that is my pet for I would not call a lady friend by that name (at least not out loud).

Yes, Snowball is my Maltese and she loves being with other dogs. She is excited about meeting Easy and sad that Rebeca won't be holding her on her lap.

Unless you have a kayak to haul you are welcome to join me down and back. Snowball would love company on the drive. :) And to add to your consideration the area is BEAUTIFUL!!!

I checked the gauge at American White Water and it currently is listing the flow at only 71 cfs. Too low to run. But based on the flow patterns it should run at 700 around 10-11 AM and continue into the afternoon. This will keep much of the river at II+ so if you are a beginner I recommend you rent a ducky for your first time around.

BTW the Nannty is not a river one should take a SOT on unless you plan to avoid the beginning and end of the river. All paddlers should also have a white water vest and helmet, because rocks hurt.

Anyone need a ride? I am thinking to take my Miatta convertable so limited luggage space. Dave[masked]

    August 26, 2013

  • dave

    Susan,

As we discussed, please bring a SOT kayak for me (one for a heavy guy).

Also, I can chip in whatever is needed for food or group stuff. Just count me in on whatever.

Also again, I will need to sleep where I have access to a wall plug for my CPAP machine.

    Thanks, Dave
