We are a very informal group of around 10 people who meet regularly to practice the taijiquan of Yang Cheng Fu.
Classes consist of group warm up, light stretching then group performance of the long form followed by individual instruction.
New students are encouraged to follow along with the warm ups & form. Expect 9-12 months of regular attendance to progress through the curriculum to the completion of learning the long form.
The curriculum also includes instruction in push hands, shuai jiao, staff, saber, sword & spear, guang ping yang taijiquan, hebei hsing yi quan, I chuan qigong & several other qigong sets.
The form is taught with insights into the martial aspects of Yang style taijiquan. These are not only effective for basic self defense but help the student understand the body mechanics necessary to experience taijis' considerable health benefits.
As a doctor of oriental medicine I also try to educate students in the basic philosophies of Chinese medicine and the energetic theories that explain taijis' effectiveness as a life long system of fitness & restorative health regimen.
Weekday AM classes meet at Hadley Park community center, PM classes are at Morgan Park community center, Saturday classes are still outdoors in the event shelter pavilion at Centennial Park. Maps to all locations can be accessed by going to the meetups tab and selecting calendar. Click on the specific class you wish to attend and that will brink up a map link.
* Remember that for all outdoor classes we will only meet if the temperature is greater than 45 degrees!
See you in class.
