Great session! We have a better idea of what group members are seeking and how the next meeting can focus on those areas.

Turned out far better than I dared to even hope!

Thanks everyone for coming out! We had some great conversations and ideas flowing. Here is the presentation I gave:

Here is also the initial Trello board with just an idea list:

Feel free to add things to it! We will be developing it out further as we go. :)

Again, thank you so much for brainstorming with us! We wanted to ask the community to dream with us and now we need to organize the focus and start to do! We will be posting our next meetup soon and are excited about the next steps!

Sorry for all the leaving and re-joining - I unintentionally created two meetup.com accounts (one with username/password, one with facebook) and had to straighten it out.

Side note: If you want to delete your meetup.com account, you have to put in your password. If you join using Facebook, you don't HAVE a meetup.com password. (It turns out using the reset password link is the workaround.)

You're not the first one to have done that... :-)

Anyone notice this event conflicts with Toledo Web Pros http://www.meetup.com/Toledo-Web-Design/events/92857942/ ... Our meetups are scheduled for the second Wednesday of the month. Good luck on your event and let's coordinate not compete. I think we have great things to offer each other.

I would not say you are being a troll. But the conflict had been discussed here already. Folks will try harder to avoid conflicts in the future. I would say it is part of our growing pains: but pain from growth is better than pain from stagnation.

    Hi!
    I'm (yet another) Kevin.
I use VB.Net in my day job, but I have a background in a wide variety of technologies.

Notice that the map is a little off. 1073 Toll Gate is actually "around the bend" to the North, next to the hotel with the water park.

However, the map now shows us as being in Switzerland. Odd... Go use mapquest instead as it's at least *close*, apparently Google maps just doesn't work well for this address!

I fixed it on the event description, but unfortunately I do not see a way to edit my comment to fix it there. :-)

Won't be able to make this one due to a schedule conflict. Will catch up with the Nerds ag the next one!

Since I probably cannot attend this meeting (and I missed the first meetup), I was doing some research into the words used here. I notice the term "Emerging Technology" several times, so I checked out the wikipedia page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerging_technologies I do not know of any other groups in the region focused on many of the topics listed there: robotics, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, etc. In general, a hardware focused group could supplement the software development groups. I could be wrong about the need - or perhaps people here are thinking of completely different things as "emerging technology".

    March 9, 2013

    • Brian K.

Not only those areas listed, but I think that much of "Computer Science" is still an emerging technology. We're still functioning (largely) as if it's an art form rather than a true science. To me that's a key indicator that it's still in the emerging (vs. mature) stage. I'll stop with that very general statement as I could prattle on for pages about specific areas that have gotten my attention lately... :-)

Working on a way to be in 2 places at the same time....

    March 9, 2013

    • Brian K.

Now THAT would be some cool emerging technology!

I added this to the Calagator http://tol-calagator.org/events/360 . It seems like a shame that some of us will have to choose between this and the Toledo Web Professionals meeting, also in the Arrowhead Park area, at basically the same time.

    March 8, 2013

    • Patrick M.

Yeah I was excited to go to this untill I noticed that it conflicts with the Toledo Web Professionals.

      March 8, 2013

    • Brian K.

Sorry about that Patrick, this meet got a little rushed. Really need to get some people together though, so we can make the following one even better! :-)

Thanks Gene! I started a discussion in this meetup at http://www.meetup.com... to help people see the other things going on in the region.
