The
Knight Commission on the Information Needs of Communities in a Democracy has recently published a report outlining how democracies can be sustained in the digital age, proclaiming that information "is as vital as clean air and safe streets."
How do the key recommendations of this report relate to New Haven? What efforts are already underway to address each of them? How can tech-savvy individuals, companies and public officials support this broad movement? What information do New Haveners need, and do they currently have access to it? If not, how can we fill the gaps?
Prior to our traditional open discussion, we will have a brief presentation by
DataHaven, a local 501(c)3 partner organization of the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership, a collaborative national effort to further the development and use of neighborhood information systems in local policymaking and community building. We also will provide a brief opportunity for invited guests and elected officials to address local policy development.
