Let's build a Social Network with BuddyPress!

What the heck is a BuddyPress and why do I need one? BuddyPress allows you to easily build a social network on top of your WordPress website complete with member profiles, private messaging, organic user groups, user forums, site wide activity and much more. We are going to go over a basic install, get you spun up on the core components and functionality, install some BuddyPress specific plugins, look at some BuddyPress Themes and get you to commit to using BuddyPress for everything you do in every aspect of your life!

Brian, thanks again for yet another 'drinking from a firehose' WP meeting. @Paul has asked whether a site was built - may I request that you add profile fields so that the pros in the group can list their skills and strengths, AND their portfolio of sites that they've designed. I see this as a way for the less-experienced members like me to contract with the more experienced members for help with our blogs / sites. Thanks again.

Kevin, can you open up registration?

@Kevin, yes I attended the meetup. I do recall that Brian mentioned that he could set up the buddypress website, however, I was just thinking that it was possible that he might have had other tasks come up for clients so I was trying to respond to the request for help ---until the buddypress site was available. perhaps the wording I used in my suggestion seemed to work against the effort.

If Brian would set up the site on a hosting, I would be more than happy to go in and set up everything and help manage, let me know.

Great BuddyPress presentation by Brian. I have a lot to learn on both WordPress and BuddyPress. This group is a wealth of information. Thank you Brian for organizing the group.

This program was a nice intro to BuddyPress. After Brian showed the examples of the uses in training/gamification/education----it seems to have so many possibilities---not limited to what I conventionally considered as social network.

It was very helpful. These meet ups help me fine tune capabilities that WP has without spending a lot of time in a trial and error process. I meet people with different perspectives that expand my scope of application of the capabilities.

Hello everyone, the new Cowerks is almost done and we will be ready to host The New Jersey Word Press Meetup Group at the new space starting this April. I wanted to invite all of you for a walk through of the new Cowerks Space 2 blocks from our current location. If you would like to see the office, please feel free to drop in around 6:15, we will take a quick walk over and I'll give you a tour. I'd love to get your feedback, so we can continue to provide a great space to host events like this meet up. Cowerks has also launched a indiegogo campaign. Funds raised this by this campaign will help outfit the new space to serve the many meetup, art and community events hosted here at Cowerks. Please take a look at our page and video. We would love it if you pass it along to anyone you know, interested in coworking and the tech/entrepreneurial community here at the Jersey Shore.

I look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

    Thanks again,

    Danny
