Alley Cat Allies has targeted the New Orleans, LA area to raise awareness and educate the community about Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) in which feral and outside cats are fixed and returned to their communities under managed caretakers and are "ear-tipped" to show they were fixed through a spay/neuter program.

This group seeks to increase networking among individuals who are interested in helping feral and outside cats in this area. As the number of feral and outside neighborhood cats continues to increase, the local shelters cannot handle the influx of new arrivals. The importance of spay/neuter to reduce the numbers of new kittens born outside requires active participation within this community.

To this end, the goal is to empower people to learn to do TNR in their neighborhoods, to put people together to assist others who need help with trapping and fixing cats who cannot do it themselves due to health issues or who are elderly, to discuss issues or questions involving feral and outside cats, and to assist with rescue or fostering of street-rescued kittens and adoptable stray cats through networking and foster home care.

Through workshops, outreach, and organizing you can learn about outdoor and feral cat colony care, Trap-Neuter-Return, or train others to do so. As a member of this group you will also receive updates on currently available low cost spay/neuter programs, TNR training workshops, and information from the local rescue community on current activities and cat-related issues. We also seek to support the efforts of high-volume TNR trappers to dedicate their services to the community as volunteers.

We are also seeking people who would like to network for sponsors of TNR trappers of costs for additional vet services for TNR'd cats and rescued kittens, and to post and network.

This meet-up group will provide an opportunity for you to network with other like-minded individuals in the New Orleans area  community! Join Alley Cat Allies to learn how you can care for and advocate on behalf of the cats in your community. Visit http://www.alleycat.org/neworleans for more information.
