Sucre near Lakeside Mall in Metairie

  • January 24, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Everyone seems to love sweets these days and what better place than Sucre home of the sweet, sweeter, and sweetest treats. Yes I realize I sound like an advertisement, but from what everyone tells me and from what I have seen it does seem to live up to that. I know I just had a group of 15 go there and loved it. So would this group like to do a mixer there as well?

Thanks for posting the pics Nancy!

I am so sorry that I did not get pictures of all who attended the Meetup. Please forgive! I also did not mingle at the meetup and I missed out on being able to meet all who attended. It just might be a good thing to have name tags for the next function to identify the members of the group. I hope that you all like the pictures.

How about we just try this meetup again in February after Mardi Gras is over? Will probably go better the second time around.

Someone said we aren't going anywhere. Actually we are going somewhere on a singles cruise with only 4 men and 14 women and a ship full of other interesting folks. MEN come join us. We leave 1/31/Thurs afternoon and come back 2/4 early Mon. morning. It is a bargain for $411.00. here else can you get a place to sleep, all the food to eat, free entertainment & a visit to Cozumel. Contact Kathy Noto if interested immediately. You might be sorry when you hear what fun we had.

It was my first time attending anything like that too. I met an old friend there and we spent the whole time catching up and didn't mingle. I couldn't really tell who was in the group and who wasn't though and wouldn't have known how to introduce myself. I'm not big on name tags but some method of knowing who's there for the meetup would help, especially for people who aren't extroverts and reluctant to just walk up and start talking.

95% of the entire place was our group. That was part of why it was hard to tell. It was all us. In the future unless I figure out a different way, if you come to me I can point out our group if there is confusion. Several people actually asked me and I told them that everyone but one table was our group.

If you want more interactive meetups, take note of those organized by Kathy Noto. There may be fees for her efforts.

      January 26, 2013

  • Charlie

There are some meetups that are set up by people who get paid to create interaction between attendees. This particular meetup was not one of them. The person paying the monthly fees to keep this meetup going gets no compensation for setting up these activities. Everyone is generally on their own to interact with others at the meetup. Moving around during the meetup is the best way.

I think everything was just fine. I do not like the idea of name tags. Having have been a meeting & event planner, I think we should have notified the management of the venue (if Brian did this, then great). But I know that management & the staff appreciate this. Otherwise everything was very nice! Thanks Brian!!!!

Yeah, we need to let Brian off the hook. If you're going there to meet people, and 60 were supposed to be US, you could introduce yourself. He's not really there to do that for you. Tho I did chat for a while e 4 ppl from San Frsn!

I'm guilty of spending time catching up with a friend, I admit - but introduced myself around and did pull tables together to enjoy others I didn't know - and enjoyed meeting them very much! I don't think I'd enjoy a forced switching every 10 minutes or something. Those of you who are more introverted, please tell us what would have worked best for you? Being introduced around? Name tags? More tables pulled together?

    January 25, 2013

    • Ruby S.

Maybe having MEET UP signs on tables and having tables pulled together would help.

With the age ranges varying so much, what type of further structuring would you all like to see at meetups if any based upon what occurred at this meetup? I like the wide age range of the group so it appeals to everyone, but structuring some things to force interaction will be difficult to appease everyone because we all grew up during different time periods. Please advise. I wil be happy to adjust things as I can to better suit the majority if possible. :)

    January 25, 2013

    • Ann

Brian My suggestion would be get tables together and have everyone have a name tag so that way we can identify who is part of the Meetup. Even a meetup sign would help. You have done a great job putting this together. The rest is not in your hands. Everyone should be able to mingle. I would also suggesst that maybe you could go from table to table to introduce yourself and get to know the members.

This was my first meetup, so I did not know what to expect. I thought there would be a little more interaction. I did have a good conversation with the ladies I set with.

    January 25, 2013

  • Cliff H.

This was my first meetup. I guess I thought it would be more interactive. Perhaps have the organizer welcome everyone and introduce those that were newcomers so we would have a chance to meet those that have attended before. Instead it appeared to just be just a lot of people who happened to show up a Sucre for a cup of coffee with their own little groups.

It was not my intent to appear accusatory or negative. I apologize if it was taken that way. I received a request for a critique of the event and I just answered it honestly.

      January 25, 2013

    • Brian

oh no reason to apologize. I value honesty tremendously. I think you brought up a lot of good points. As with everyone, I am by no means perfect, and I appreciate honest feedback so I can become a better and more fun organizer in giving people what they want. I only strive to make sure I have fun as well, because what a lot of non-organizer members of meetup dont realize is that organizers pay fees to be organizers. So I want to do what I can to make this fun for everyone while still having fun for myself. Your comments will help me to do that. If anything Im glad you commented. Otherwise I wouldnt know. :)

Loved the Metairie location. Nice to go somewhere besides a bar.

The meetup during the Christmas holidays at the Sazerac was a big problem. The Sazerac manager said they could handle >50 people and they could not. Not too many people were happy so 1/2 went to the RITZ.

    January 23, 2013

    • Charlie

We'll just have to organize another meetup at the Deutsches Haus and have people bring their own sweets!

No need to post since this generates email. Just change your RSVP to no if you are nit attending. This helps the organizers...

Many of the "65" listed here RSVP'd way before there was a date saying they wanted to do this. I don't honestly believe anywhere near that number will show up.

    January 22, 2013

  • Regina R.

Whoa... Can Sucre even hold 64 people?!?!?!

    January 22, 2013

    • Eric

I have been there several times and its not feasible at all. 65 people is alot for that small space, I highly recommend speaking with the manager( His name is Joel I think) prior to setting anything in stone with dates and times for all.

I am the event coordinator. When would everyone be free to attend this? I need multiple choices so when I go talk to sucre I can say which days of the week are acceptable. looking to do this this month or early next month. I personally would prefer this month though.

    November 11, 2012

I believe this month will be kinda tough for everyone with family plans , this is just my two cents
