Take advantage of community-priced ISHTA yoga classes, taught in a variety of locations throughout the city, both indoors and outdoors (weather permitting)! Take yoga lessons that promote physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being, from certified NYC Ishta teachers! All levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced. Did you know that stress comes easily and naturally to you ("fight-or-flight response"), but not usually relaxation?! Beyond relaxation, the benefits of a regular yoga practice include enhanced strength and flexibility, as well as increased self-awareness and self-empowerment through the integration of all the facets of your being. Yoga allows the essential "you", which you may perceive as fragmented by the demands & challenges of society, to return to its original state of union. Created by yogi master Alan Finger, ISHTA (Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra and Ayurveda) means "that which resonates with an individual's spirit" in Sanskrit, and points to a teaching lineage that honors the individuality of each student. Classes may include the practice of asana (the physical postures of yoga), pranayama (controlling/stretching your breath so you control/stretch your mind), Sat Kriya (six cleansing actions), Kriya breathing (visualizations of energetic pathways), mantras (sounds from the ancient spiritual language of Sanskrit) and/or meditation (begins with mental focus and/or repetition).
