The summer may be winding down, but we're going to get this new Meetup group off the ground. So join us for our very first night at the pub as we spend an evening in two of New York's finest Irish establishments.
We'll start the evening for drinks and some of the best pub grub in New York at the Fáilte Irish Whiskey Bar, on 2nd Avenue between 29th and 30th. Failte consistently makes most short lists of the top Irish pubs in Manhattan. From NYC.com:
"Even if you live on the other side of the planet, you know you are home when you walk into Fáilte Irish Whiskey Bar. The first floor transports you to a rustic pub in Ireland with a roaring fireplace, a wattle and daub ceiling, and a beautiful rough-hewn wooden bar. The friendly bartenders welcome you with a smile and a cold pint. Fáilte is the place to sample an Irish whiskey."
New York Magazine calls Fáilte "An Irish pub that will remind you why Irish pubs are so popular in the first place."
TimeOut points out that "Fáilte is Gaelic for 'welcome,' and that’s how drinkers will feel when ensconced within this homey Gramercy bar."
From there, we'll head half a block down the street to Paddy Reilly's, the world's only all-Guinness draft bar and the home of live Irish music in New York for the last 27 years. Tuesday night is session night at Paddy's, when musicians gather around the hearth (yes, this bar has a hearth) to play traditional Irish music on fiddle, accordion, concertina, tin whistle, bodhran and other instruments.
You can read more about the phenomenon that is the Irish session in New York HERE.
So this event should give you a good preview of what to expect from this group this fall and beyond. Come on out, have a pint or a whiskey, listen to some tunes, enjoy the craic. We'll start at Fáilte about 6:30, then head down to Paddy's about an hour later.
See you there!
