Building Your First App with Perl and MongoDB by Mike Friedman

This talk introduces the basic concepts of MongoDB, a document-oriented database, and the Perl MongoDB API. We will use MongoDB and Mojolicious::Lite to put together a simple web-based library application. When we're done, you will have a good sense of how MongoDB differs from traditional relational databases and what kinds of projects are possible.

Those who wish to follow along should have Mojolicious::Lite and installed, and have basic familiarity with git and github. (A github repo URL will be provided prior to the meetup.)

About the speaker:

Mike FriedmanMike Friedman is a Perl Engineer & Evangelist at 10gen, the MongoDB company. Mike is the current maintainer of the Perl MongoDB driver and is the author of a number of other CPAN modules, including Redis::Client. Prior to 10gen, Mike has hacked Perl at a number of New York-based high-tech startups, as well as media and educational services companies.

    Mike Friedman's talk had excellent content and pace. I've heard about MongoDB before, but it never "clicked" until now. Studying the demo programs from GitHub beforehand helped a lot. David Golden's mini-talk was also very useful, and convinced me to try MongoDB with Mongoose.
