Meet n Greet / SEED EXCHANGE

Hello fellow gardeners, rooftop enthusiasts and everyone else.

Springtime has officially sprung (I’m counting Saturday’s 55 degree day!) and Leslie and I are working on our 2013 calendar. We have a lot of things in the works and we’d like to kick off 2013 with a Meet n Greet / Seed Exchange. I know it’s a little late for seed exchange, but come anyways and say hello and meet some of the other meetup members.

I personally just planted all my greens this weekend (by seed) so its never too late!

As this is a “Seed Exchange” please bring extra seeds, cuttings, seedlings – anything you want to share.

Leslie has offered coffee to wake us up. Feel free to bring anything else to nosh-on.

Note: Leslie has a large dog that is VERY cuddly. Cecil is friendly and loves attention, but he does not jump up.

Lastly, in the interest of sharing our collective wisdom on gardening, does anyone have additional suggestions for Mary Meehan on what she can grow? (see email to group on 3/19/13). Lets try and help her out.

Directions:  Take subway to West 14th street:  E, 1,2,3.  Walk south on 8th avenue, turn right on west 11th and walk to 338 West 11th. Apt 3A

It was wonderful to hear about so much skill and ingenuity right in the thick of the city, and the healing effect of gardening. Fascinting too to learn that rooftop gardens can be a more extreme climate than others. Thank you SO much for all the seeds, I got everything on my list but two, anda perfect way to get the one last item too! Everyone wa very generous.

I was wondering - does anyone have any mulch, say 1/2 a bag or so, that they can "donate" to me? I'm also looking for containers of all sizes, but especially larger ones, , so I can grow things like cucumbers and zucchini. :) I'm unemployed/out of work musician, so I'd appreciate any help from those who might be looking to get rid of old containers, etc. Thanks! :)

Sadly, I don't think I got to meet you, Genata, but perhaps I did swap for some of your seeds? :)

I'm new to vegetable gardening, but have done flowers for years. I don't have any seeds to exchange right now, as last season my garden was pretty meager due to being broke and unemployed....same thing now. I so want to grow a few veggies though, and I have the space and containers! Would I still be welcome with no seeds to trade?

It was great meeting everyone and I love all the seeds I got. We want to have you over in to our terrace in the summer and hopefully we'll have some great love in cage plants to show.

Thanks Leslie and Josh for planning!

I did some research, and found out that our curious, "love in a cage" berry is actually known as the "Pichu Berry" and is in fact a SUPERFOOD! :) More info here: http://www.pichuberry...

FYI - for those who compost, there is a greenmarket at Abington Square that accepts food scraps etc on Saturday mornings from 8am-1pm. Abington square Greenmarket is about 2 blocks from Leslies Apt. If you want to bring your veggie scraps or other compostable items, you can drop off prior to visiting Leslies. (no meat or greasy food items- see website for approved items)

Abington Square is located at Hudson Street and West 12th St.

Leslie: Is your building an elevator building or a walkup?

    April 3, 2013

    • Josh

HI Susan, The building does not have an elevator. There are 3 flights of stairs (about 15 stairs/floor).

Alas, I'll still be in Florida...won't be back until the first week of June so my garden will get its usual late start...
Have fun and give Cecil a hug for me.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
