Angel Trumpets in Brooklyn, smell the music...

Come join us for another Fall meetup, this time in Brooklyn.

Please join host and gardener extraordinaire Gordon Hawkins in Brooklyn (yes Brooklyn) for a spectacular rooftop garden event.
Gordon has generously volunteered his amazing Cobble Hill rooftop again which contains a multitude of exotic species from around the world. He will be giving a garden tour and hosting Q&A.
Its late in the season and the primary and most unusual attraction is Gordon's collection of Angel Trumpet flowers, Brugmansia, which grow on tree-sized plants all around his deck. Gordon's simulated Peruvian mountainside microenvironment, the result of many years of experimentation, observation, and seeds collected from enthusiasts all over the world, allows these mysterious plants to thrive. The blooms are up to a foot long, have an intense perfume, are used by medicine men in Peru to induce visions, and will never be found as cut flowers in a florist's shop. The petals are too delicate. His deck boasts thousands of Brugmansia flowers as well as many other kinds of plants.

Drinks and snacks always appreciated. As an additional incentive, another of Gordon's hobbys is making his own ice cream. He is offering tasty treats from his freezer for this event.

Note: It might be cool, so bring a jacket to the event, and make sure you can climb in and out of small spaces (you'll understand when you get there)

If you RSVP and are unable to attend please update your RSVP so that others can attend.
The group is also open to topics for discussion- don't be shy. Share what you know!

Lastly, anonymous donations to assist with the meetup group greatly appreciated (.50 cents- $1.00 max). We will have a donation jar at the event.

Gordon, thanks for that growth experience! And thanks to Aunt Velma and you for being such a peach, and thanks for the oxalic clipping. It was good to meet you roof garden folks.

Gordon says: " I guess it depends on how heavy.. we can still hold a bit of one if it's light rain... next Saturday would be a torrential rain next time slot"

So.... we are on for Today, Saturday October 6. Bring a rain slicker and umbrella, just in case

Hi, is there a "rain date" for this event? Forecast says 30% chance of rain between 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday...

I'd love to come, but "climb in and out of small spaces"? How small?

I'm not sure why that restriction was mentioned... at the top of a circular stairway.. [ very sturdy... all steel and comercially sold everywhere ] there's a small landing.. and then a door way that's about 3 1/2 feet tall.. I'm 6' tall so when I get there I usually just crawl through... although I can bend over and walk out... most shorter folks can just walk through ducking.. this door way is about 1/2 ft wider than the stairs... I've never had anyone not be able to go through...and I've had some rather large friends up there...

a more appropiate warning might be for the ice cream... warning .. you might be offered a larger quanity of ice cream then perhaps you should eat... and it being so good you'll surely be tempted..
