Welcome to 2013 Rooftop Gardens - some info, requests and special Video

Hi All,

I hope everyone is getting ready for Springtime, planting season and eventual fresh tomatoes (or herbs, flowers, eggplants, peppers or whatever you grow)!

I'd like to welcome back all the regulars and all the new people who joined up over the winter.  Leslie and I (and others) are discussing idea's for events in 2013 and are open to any and all suggestions.  I wanted to review a few things to kick-off 2013.

Member Video:

One of our longstanding members and noted gardener was featured in a short video, which showcases his beautiful garden in Cobble Hill.  Gordon has been very generous in hosting Meetup events on his spectacular rooftop garden and if you have attended any of these you know how special his rooftop garden is.  Please see the video link to review this very special space:

Volunteers Requested:
Our last event of 2012 was a big success with over 30 people attending a private review and discussion of the private rooftop Garden at the Arsenal in Central  Park.  This was a special event as the Arsenal garden is generally not open to the public (special thanks to Leslie for setting this up).  Kaitilin Griffin, the head gardener and libriarian, provided a most interesting review of the Arsenal Garden.  Kaitilin is always interested in volunteers who have gardening experience to volunteer at the Arsenal gardens.  To inquire about volunteering, please contact Kaitlin Griffin at: [address removed]

Please mention you were referred through the NY Rooftop Garden meetup group.

Upcoming Event: SEED EXCHANGE

We always try for an early spring-time SEED EXCHANGE to get everyone motivated for growing season. Stay tuned for info.

Other Info: 1/2 priced seedlings: Earth Day

Historically,  Home Depot and Lowes offer 1/2 priced plants/seedlings during Earth Day.  Earth day is on Monday April 22, 2013.  The prior weekend will probably have the big sales - April 19-21 - Put it on your calendar.  Last year I loaded up on seedlings and got a big jump on the season.

Hope to see you all sometime in 2013.

Josh, Leslie and Jim
