If you look at my Facebook page, and hit Photos on the Peter Watson Profile page, you'll see a couple of photo Albums that I put up yesterday. One is aimed at roof/urban garden people, although there's overlap with our apartment swap trip to Paris. You can also see our trip to Egypt earlier this year (although there are very few plants involved in that journey--it's mostly desert except for the strips around the Nile and canals).
One thing that I think is kind of interesting is that the Paris shots look a lot like the New York shots, in fact, I doubt you'll detect any difference. The East Village was a perfect swap for Pigalle (has a seedy, sex club side at night and lots of noise from drunks), and the same kinds of plants do well there, too. The French guys' apartment was cavernous compared to ours, and they have the ability to winter their plants inside, which I would love.
Our deck made this partially possible because it had touristic attraction, but I would advise anyone to give apartment swaps on craigslist a try. You have to go with your instincts at putting up your details and photos, writing emails, making phone calls and discerning who is the same kinds of person, trustworthy, etc and who's not.
We'll be setting up another roofdeck meetup here in Manhattan or Brooklyn soon, like mid-late Sept. Gordon's garden was an all time hit and may set a gold standard never to be beaten. But there are other spaces out there.
Tell me if you had problems reaching my Facebook listing.
