The New York Roof Deck and Roof Gardening Meetup Group Message Board › The last market day of Brooklyn Rooftop Farms this year is Sunday, Nov 22
New York, NY
Those of you who made our weekend visit about a month ago to Brooklyn Rooftop Farms will already know what a worthy and fascinating endeavor is taking place at 44 Eagle St in Greenpoint.
Likewise, those who haven't seen the farm yet might take advantage of an upcoming opportunity on Sunday, Nov.22, which will be their last market day of the year. Buy some great Thanksgiving vegetables. The money they make will be put towards buying seeds for next year.

Not only is the place a surrealistic visual treat--you're standing amidst neat rows of carrots while looking out over a high view of industrial cranes, dockland buildings, the East River with the full Manhattan skyline in the background, and above it all an infinite expanse of sky. The farm is also a thoroughly laudable attempt to turn sensible and often-talked-about ideas into a physical reality: greening the city by employing unused spaces, educating people of all ages about where their food comes from, and sourcing foods locally, saving fuel. Their produce tastes good--a lot of top restaurants buy from them.
It's a grassroots establishment, not commercialized, small enough to be friendly.
The story of the Annie and Ben, the farmers, and a photo is here:
It's likely that Kathy and I will go this Sunday to purchase some goods, which will include more than vegetables, like hot sauce, t-shirt, etc. to support the place. If you're interested, we'll be there at 12 noon and will stay an hour or so to hang out. Anyone who'd like to join us is welcome. The farm is at 44 Eagle St, Greenpoint in Brooklyn, and below is a link for the googlemap. HopStop.com the location--it's accessible by public transport
