First meetup - The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher

For our first meetup, we'll meet at Le Meridien since it's a central location for travelers.  We'll discuss The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: A Shocking Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective by Kate Summerscale.

Since this is our first meetup, please come even if you haven't finished the book so we can get a feel for the club and discuss future books, meetups, etc.

For May, we'll read IQ84 by Haruki Murakami.  We'll try to stay a month or so ahead since getting books will require some planning.

I look forward to meeting you and to lovely conversation!

Best wishes,

Thanks Julie. Good meeting and enjoyed becoming acquainted with what I hope will be an expanding group.

Hello all! First off, my apologies for not having posted the information sooner. What if we read Phyllida's suggestion - The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher - for the first meeting and IQ84 for May? IQ84 would be a pretty hefty read for this month.

Also, please note that I changed the date for the first meeting from Thursday to Wednesday. Sorry for the change, but I hope this is enough advance notice and everyone can still make it! I'll update the invite with the above information, and let's try the Meridien for the first meeting. In the future, we could try a more casual cafe and we'll definitely try to keep it to casual locations.

I'll update the general invite - thanks for all your ideas! I look forward to meeting you!

Why don't we go with Phyllida's/suggestion and read her recommended book ..? Time is getting short.

As I was living in Japan for 20 years, I am interested to read
Haruki Murakami's book IQ84. A few friends have read it
and recommend it highly. Let's give it a go. If not this meeting
but hopefully in the future. There are some good reads on the
list, all seem interesting. Perfume (The story of a Murderer) too has been recommended
by friends, so this would be my next choice.
