Community Gone Viral:Earth Sharing Unconference (SF)

Celebrate Interdependence Day on July 5th with area cohousers, community seekers, and allies. Learn from the shared wisdom of experts, founders, organizers and members. Co-create new models and tools for permanent affordability and community re-investment.

Discover and share what intentional communities such as cohousing, coops, coworking spaces, and ecovillages offer the world and to our Bay Area housing crisis. What will it take grow more sustainable, affordable, prosperous, inclusive, and creative intentional communities?

Experts on Tap - Meet experienced founders, seekers, entrepreneurs, investors, and professionals. Find your allies and kindred spirits.

What will it take for Community to Go Viral? We need replicable solutions and systems that serve more than one community at a time.  This unconference will explore financing and ownership options to help more communities to secure land and housing for the long term.

By the end of the day, you'll have a clearer map for you and your companions in the journey ahead.

Native Americans, single tax colonies and cooperative cities, permaculture, regenerative enterprise,  Islamic housing finance coops, interest-free-banking, and turning social capital into income and ownership.

Current and new communities and forming groups will have an opportunity to share openings or plans -- bring your banner!

Ownership structures and financing

Founders, lawyers, Investors, and planners specializing in cooperative and affordable community formation will be on hand to provide more details on ownership models, community land trust, condo, leaseholds and rental sharing models. We'll share examples of partnerships that increase affordability through access to public financing options.

Representatives from Cutting Edge Capital and Sustainable Economies Law Center will outline the legalities of  real estate financing and investment systems, including new crowdsourcing options.  Other experts can speak on current public financing programs, and potential for-profit sources from social impact investers, nonprofit revolving loan funds, and interest free financing cooperatives.

Allies and Political Change

ICs have allies; we can support each other to make change.  Affordable housing organizers, developers and advocates are invited.  CA-Evolve, the Prop 13 property tax reform campaign will be represented.

Skills for a Cooperative Culture- Creating intentional communities is more than finance and legalities. Sustainability requires social equity.  Breakouts will include decision-making, governance, and communication structures for shared leadership, equity, radical inclusion, getting the work done, and remediating power and conflict patterns.  John Schinnerer will convene a session on consent-based governance through sociocracy.  Group Works, a pattern language for learning the essentials of great meetings and gatherings will be shared.

Systems Design for Growing Intentional Communities - How can we use these legal, financing, and cultural options to rapidly prototype and replicate more intentional communities? What's needed to rapidly replicate the most successful models?

See you there!
