William Butler Ogden, the Canal Building Mayor

Please join our friends, the Friends of the Chicago Portage, as they present a free historical presentation, William Butler Ogden, the Canal Building Mayor.

William Ogden first arrived in Chicago in 1835. Less then two years later, he became the 1st mayor of Chicago. Ogden and his family bought and in part preserved large tracts of land around the west end of the old Portage Road, which today make up parts of Portage and Ottawa Trail Woods Forest Preserve. Hear his fascinating story presented by author and researcher Lou Ritten.

The presentation will begin at 1:00 P.M and will conclude before 3:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served.

This is a must see event for history lovers, educators, tour guides, and anyone else who communicates the stories of Chicago to others.

My ride just backed out on me! I will try to make it but it's doubtful but this sounds like a great event which I will be disappointed to miss out on.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
