Chicago was the world leader of hat production in the 1920. Paris had the design impact, New York an early U.S. leader in milliery, but after the Chcago Fire, industry and manufacturing jumped by leaps and bounds. Wholesaling millinery from here became successful in the late 1800s. neighborhood hats shops flourished with manufactured goods, as well as designs by milliners who used basic materials readily found here. Finding out about these business owners drives my incessant research. Looking forward to adding to great tidbits in this quest.
Born in Chicago and raised in Logan Square, my first job was selling millinery at age 16. That was 1966. Hats have remained a passion, and have spent several years researching Chicago's millinery history.
