Southern Sirens

This shoot is designed to emulate the siren scene from the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou." Female models should wear simple long, white(ish) dresses with light-colored undergarments. Hair and makeup should be minimal (i.e. roll out of bed and come!!) If there are any males interested in modeling for this, button-up gray/brown shirts (these can be old white shirts that have been mud stained) with overalls or suspenders are appropriate. A floppy cowboy hat wouldn't be out of question either! If anyone happens to have a prop beer jug, feel free to bring that as well!

Photographers, bring a medium and/or long lens for this shoot. If you're shooting from the bank, you might have to shoot across the river. We're waiting until July to help give the rains a chance to subside and let the river level go down a little. Hopefully we can get a nice sunny day! Do feel free to scope out the area ahead of time if you'd like. If you have a waterproof box, you might be interested in hiking through the stream over to the center, where there is a bit of an island, if you want to call it that! Like I said, you might want to scope out the place pre-shoot.

The shoot location is about a half-mile hike, most of which is paved, but the last 200 yards can get a little muddy. It isn't at all steep or difficult though. We can meet in the lot where non-resident cars have to stop, and drive equipment and people to the furthest point where cars can go. We'll be heading left on the Nakoa trail to point number 4 on the ranger map.

And if anyone has a different suggestion for location, let me know soon, and I'll scope it out to see if it fits my vision for the shoot. Also, does anyone happen to have a megaphone? With photographers potentially working so far away from the models, it might be nice to amplify voices for direction...? Or maybe even a walkie talkie set! lol

Was able to attend the meetup at Kahana Valley, left early but was happy to meet the group.

Great idea. When the water was too high to do what we'd hoped, the flexibility of the group allowed us to find another spot(s) and enjoy a successful shoot. Thanks to Allison for her scouting efforts,

Flexibility is an important key to success - if the site isn't what you'd hoped, try another. We did and it worked thanks to the willingness of the group to be flexible.

Is there a landmark to find the entrance off of the highway? I see the locked gate on the driveway that Google maps wants me to cross

Jasmin, I have that same dilemma. Been closely following the games for weeks, and now this unfortunate conflict of times...

I figured that I'll go to the shoot, pretty much turn off my cell once the game starts, and watch it later on ESPN. ;)

Sourh East end of the park (water side) looked promising from the road. Otherwise, queen Liluokalani Park by Kuakini Hospital has several spots including stream, large grass and a short, wide waterfall. Parking off Kuakini St is limited, tho. Any time you want help in location scouting please let me know.

There's not much cell reception in the area, but please feel free to try[masked] if you're having trouble locating us. I'm gong to double check the location Thursday to see if the water level has gone down any since the spring. If this location doesn't end up working, does anyone have any alternate suggestions? (I have time Saturday to scout as well if needed)
