TURKEY CREEK/BLACK CANYON 3.5 MODERATE TO HARD

  • March 29, 2014 · 9:00 AM
  • I-17 Exit 248 Bumble Bee, go west 2.5 miles on left to air down spot.

TURKEY CREEK IS RATED 3.5 MODERATE TO HARD.
LIMIT 18 .
NO STREET TIRES.
TIRE SIZE 32 OR ABOVE (LARGE BOULDERS).
NO PICK UP'S .
FOUR WHEEL DRIVE REQUIRED.
PIN STRIPPING FOR SURE.
CB CHANNEL 23.
RETURN LATE AFTERNOON.
BRING LUNCH .
SPARE TIRE.
Turkey Creek is a fun trip, lots of water crossing, large boulders , tight turns, shelf roads and drop off's. It starts near the town of Bumble Bee and goes up the creek in Black Canyon to Turkey Creek and ends in the old Gost town of Cleator, AZ population 7. Old Bar in Cleator is the end of the run.
Two (2) Bad spots: 1. Between boulders with a drop down. you can lose you fender or tail light . It has a by pass which I take. You will not see this on the Video.
2. A rock wall on the left with a very tight road that has large drop off's down to the creek and is slowly being wash out. I will not take anyone down this part. If you want to do this you are on your own. We will stop and walk up and look at it and each of you must make up your own mind. I will take the by pass. You will not see this on the Video.

Please view the Video of the run with Sun City West on Feb 4, 2014 to see if this is for you.

Can you tell me the estimated travel time from Prescott to air down site? Thanks!

    March 24, 2014

    • Larry M.

I agree with Bill. It takes me 22 minutes from Dewey to I-17 and if we are talking around downtown Prescott, that's another 15 minutes. From I-17 (exit 262) to Bumble Bee is another 15-20 min. My best guess is a little over 50 min.

    • Steve D.

Thanks Larry and Bill. We are coming from Skull Valley, I'll figure 1.5 hours to be safe.

      March 24, 2014

  • Bill T.

The meeting place is at the Air Down spot, Bumble Bee Road 2.5 miles on left from exit on I-17. No meeting place in Prescott area, each one on their own to air down spot.

So... If this run crosses the river several times and it starts raining tonight and tomorrow are we still good or is it an issue?

    February 28, 2014

    • Darren K.

LOL I was not looking at the date. I just saw Saturday and presumed it was tomorrow.

      February 28, 2014

  • Jim P.

The run is March 29th?What happens tonight probably won't affect a trip a month away. The conditions can change rapidly however.I have done this run a dozen times or more with varying conditions from hardly any water,to aborting the run half way through and turning tail to beat the water coming downstream.Exciting!I only sunk my CJ-5 one time however. The late Duffy Anthony,an old time N.C.C. member, counted the creek crossings on a trip under moderate flow @ 20+

so off bumble bee exit theres no place people park their tow rigs?? I passed it heading south this weekend and didn't see any tow rigs around. Can anyone one shed some light on that subject. My rig is not very street friendly especially early am's and late pm's with out a top

    February 27, 2014

    • Bill T.

Open spots about 2.5 miles down Bubble Bee Road. You could also think about parking at Cordes Junction. I-17 and Hwy 69. Also spots at Sunset Rest Stop but not sure it's allowed.

Those on the waiting list can now join the 10:30 am run. Please update your RSVP to NO on this run and Yes on the 10:30am run Lead by my friend Lou Knapp. Thank you Lou.

  • Jason A.

What if we split into two groups? That way we could have the first 15 and the current 11 on the waiting list partake in this adventure too!

    February 9, 2014

    • Bill T.

Would need someone that knows the trail and willing to lead the second group. It has alot of turns. Also I have fould that the other group catches up and it becomes one very large group and hard to control.

If the second group is for rigs that want to run all the difficult parts without bypassing this would/should keep the second group separated from the first.

    February 9, 2014

  • Jason A.

I have joined the wait list. My tires are 31's however I believe I have the skill to negotiate a 3.5/5

    February 9, 2014

  • Tom C

Hi folks. is there a staging area to park a tow rig??

    February 6, 2014

    • Bill T.

Tom, Tow rig could be parked at the air down spot. But wide open space, could get broken into.

      February 7, 2014

    • Bill T.

Tom, remember you are still on the waiting list

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
