Hey guys, this is a press release I'm working on for an event this weekend. We're going to enable some open source car-hacking. Read on, and please attend if it looks interesting!

Evermind + RechargeCar will participate in the Hertz Connected Vehicle and Mobility Hackathon this weekend, April 19th and 20th, hosted by nestGSV in Redwood City, CA.

Evermind + RechargeCar will provide hardware for developers at the event to use for "hacking their cars." RechargeCar will provide several "Macchina" kits that will allow developers to communicate with a car's onboard computer.

Macchina is an open-source hardware device based on the Arduino platform. As such, it is licensed under the same 'Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike' license. Hardware design files and source files are all freely shared to encourage more development and improvement on existing designs.

Equipped with cell phone data modems, along with an SDK and libraries, Macchina will enable developers at the event to begin building exciting new applications for vehicle telematics, particularly applications relevant to aging driver well-being and safety.

Josh Sharpe-Stirewalt, founder of RechargeCar, is a cofounder of Evermind.

David, would RechargeCar or Evermind (or you) be interested in presenting to Silicon Valley Automotive Open Source meetup?
