Great development! We have expanded our scope to meet people interested in the practice of both Tai Chi & Chi Kung (or Qigong) - two closely interwoven Chinese traditional methods for health and wellness. Tai Chi originated as a martial art form which developed applications in health and wellness exercises, while Chi Kung is a system of energy work or energy exercise using forms and postures that promote health, well-being, strength and peace. We would like to share our Tai Chi & Chi Kung (Qigong) forms among the members through guided practice sessions. We also encourage positive and helpful exchange of skills and experiences, thus promoting learning from each other. Knowledge and practice of Tai Chi and/or Chi Kung is preferred but not required.
Collaborating Instructors:
For Tai Chi: Alejandre Abaygar, a Certified Tai Chi Exercise instructor of the Arthritis Foundation, following Dr. Paul Lam's Sun-style forms especially developed for health and arthritis.
For Chi-Kung: Charles Anthony, an experienced 30-year practitioner and teacher of both Chi-Kung and Yoga.
Introductory classes: Drawing on thousands of years of tradition, the introductory class will focus on easy movements and postures. For Chi Kung, the students will be taught special exercises in standing, sitting and lying down postures, with emphasis on the coordinated use of body, breath, and mind.
Both Tai Chi and Chi Kung generally provide such naturally occurring benefits as:
1. Greatly reduced physical and mental stress.
2. Calm, quiet, meditative mind.
3. Increased blood circulation to nourish and heal the body's cells and organs.
4. Adjustment of metabolic functions to optimum levels.
5. Increased sense of ease and joy throughout the day.
6. Substantially increased daily level of energy.
Everyone from all levels and age is welcome to experience and learn Chi Kung's ancient healing systems and Tai Chi's martial arts form not as a fighting technique but as a health and wellness exercise suitable for all ages. Beginners will receive good grounding and more experienced practitioners will be able to deepen and improve their practice.
The sessions will take place at an outdoor location to maximize the benefits from the sun and earth. Participants are asked to wear loose-fitting clothing appropriate for flowing movements including (for Chi-Kung) lying on the ground, bending and stretching.
Rates: To be determined by group size and frequency of the class. Multi-session packages and group rates are available.
