Don McCullin: A Retrospective

01 Feb to 14 April 2013

Prints, Drawings and Photographs Galleries

This exhibition of 134 black and white photographs by British photojournalist Don McCullin traces the artist’s journey from working class England to the world’s most notorious conflict zones, including Cyprus, the Congo, Biafra, Vietnam, Lebanon and Ireland. McCullin is part of the tradition of humanist Photography and war art associated with names such as Goya, Dix and Capa. His more recent work – lyrical, brooding landscapes of Somerset wetlands and Indian elephant festivals – invites quite reflection.

Of interest also is a film screening of “McCullin” (2012, 95 min.) On Thursday March 21 at 6:00 pm

Clash: Conflict and Its Consequences

01 Feb to 21 April 2013

This exhibition draws upon works in the collection to present war and conflict as comlex phenomena, ones that have far reaching consequences for both those directly engaged in it, and those at various points of remove. Central to this exhibition is photography’s relation to trauma and remembrance, at a personal, communal and national level, and issues of what constitutes history, for whom and why.

Looking forward to seen you there.

Just a reminder, they don't allow photography inside the exhibition areas or even the tranquil wishing well and indoor garden area, only in the main hall\lobby area, which is a shame because the architecture inside is great!
