Parc Omega Nature Photography

This is the second meetup I'll be hosting at this location. The first was a huge success.  Before you get into the nitty gritty below here's some first hand info:

• The park opens at 10am.  After you pay at the gate, we will all meet in the parking lot 30 feet away.  We will do a quick round of introductions and for those who need it, advice on techniques.

• The animals are INSANE!!!!  Be prepared to get the best wildlife shots of your life. Bring your own bag of carrots. There's hundreds of deer and moose that stick their head inside your car.

• You're not supposed to get out of your car.

• 3pm we optionally meet back at the chalet / restaurant for a chin wag and photo swap.  Even at the restaurant, there's incredible photo opportunities.

• If you've never been here before, it's the best $20 you'll ever spend as a photographer.  Last trip a few months ago, we saw wolves, a bear, arctic foxes, Oxen, deer and a ton more.

• The weather is going to be AWESOME for Sunday!

Re-visited Parc Omega today, what a great day. On this second visit I concentrated mainly on the Arctic Wolves, Arctic Fox, Coyotes. Lucky enough to video the wolves howling, amazing. Really happy with my Photo's from this outing.

Not sure if I am permitted to upload on this site. Maybe someone could answer that question, not sure if the photo's must be part of an outing.

Sorry I don't know, but as my friend always says "it's easier to ask for forgiveness then permission".

      March 22, 2014

    • Jeff G.

      Go for it.

      March 22, 2014

  • John W.

I know it doesn't really fit in here, but not sure where else to post this, but does anyone here have an opinion on the Apple MacBook (Mid-2010). I need to buy a laptop and I NEED to be able to do decent photo editing. So what do you think, and pls don't blast me for posting this here.

    March 18, 2014

    • Dan R.

Aside from being a small MacBook physically, it's a little light on RAM. It might be okay to do some basic photo editing, it wouldn't be my first choice.

      March 19, 2014

    • John W.

      thanks guys , duly noted.

      March 19, 2014

  • Virginia M.

Photography opportunities were great, absolutely wonderful day

  • Tammy M.

thanks Jeff for organizing this it was a great idea! Such a beautiful place I plan on returning. Sorry I wasn't able to stay after but for some reason my heater quit working and I was worried about my windows fogging on the way home! Looking forward to spending time with people next time!

It was great to meet people today.

Thanks Jeff for organizing this event to a truly amazing spot. I am glad I went, sorry missed the get-together afterwards.

I really enjoyed myself today, this was my first time attending a meetup with this group and I will for sure being doing it again. Great crowd as well :)

    March 16, 2014

  • Debbie P.

Still looking for a ride - I'm coming from Dunrobin/Kanata, but can meet anywhere along the way that has a place to park my car for the day.

    March 12, 2014

    • Debbie P.

Thanks Heather. Have made arrangements to meet Julie in Cumberland just before the ferry, so I won't need a ride. He sure is young to have a driver's license :)

      March 15, 2014

    • Nicholas U

LOL I've seen him race on the xbox...I'm not letting him near the car! LOL

      March 16, 2014

  • Jeff G

If some animals stick their heads in the car then you would need a wide angle lens for that, what about the foxes and wolves, do you need a long zoom to get those? What do people recommend for lens choices?

    March 11, 2014

    • Joël D.

X2 what Jeff said. (Although I only have one camera body). Last time I think I used all of my lenses. From extra wide up to 200mm (which wasn't quite long enough for some shots).

      March 15, 2014

    • Marc L.

I had 2 bodies as well...24-105 for closer shot and a[masked] with a 2X for the long shots...remember to use a faster shutter speed with the long shots...I forgot that rule last time and most of my long shots were garbage

      March 16, 2014

  • Ian

    Last minute joiner!
Leaving Barrhaven about 8:30 if you need a ride.

    March 15, 2014

  • Jules

I have a prepaid groupon ticket of $12.00 that may not be used. I'll know last minute... and post again when I can....if anyone is interested.

    March 15, 2014

    • Nicholas U

Julie I could use it if no one has spoken for it, I can pay you at the gate. :) This is Nick's mom Heather)

      March 15, 2014

    • Jules

OK, Heather, Nick's mom. :) I'm in a 2008 Silver Ford Focus, with mustang chrome piece on sides.

      March 15, 2014

  • Joël D.

If anyone still needs a ride, I'm alone in my Jeep. I'm in Lowertown, but don't mind driving a bit (to pick up someone).

    March 15, 2014

  • Dan R.

I won't post any photos. I didn't participate. Hope you guys have a great day.

    March 15, 2014

    • Aroop G.

In that case I would love to see your photos if you have posted then online some place else. Please do share the link.

Just went yesterday with my son and photography coop student doing a placement with me. Used the groupon vouchers no problems. Had a great time. Lots of great opportunities, though the caribou and muskox stayed farther away. Moose are behind fences but elk, deer, wild boars, ibex and bison do get up close in the hopes of a carrot. They also have a sleigh ride and a sugar shack that made nice pit stops. Enjoy!

I don't think the parc is to technology advanced. I would highly recommend bringing the paper groupon. Just to be safe

      March 15, 2014

    • Vanessa D.

I went yesterday and showed them the voucher on the Groupon app on my phone. They took done the number and all went smoothly. Have fun!

      March 15, 2014

  • Dan R.

Oh, and be careful of these guys... they jump up on your car - almost damaged mine....

Just to clarify - about getting out of your vehicle - there is a "picnic" area about 1/2 way along the path. You are free to get out and wander. Most of the time deer will come over to you for a handout! There are washrooms there also. I've been several times and it's amazing. Everyone takes carrots, but I've found they love (seedless) grapes. Most of the deer will also take green beans ! To cut down on travel time you might also want to take the ferry from Rockland. I think it was something like 8.00 each way. Cuts about 30 min each way.

    1 · March 11, 2014

    • Kathy

You're welcome. Wish I was able to go. Hope you and the rest really enjoy the day!

      March 15, 2014

    • Jules

      Rockland ferry closed, use Cumberland.

Can't wait. Got great shots last time. This time I will be testing my new[masked]

    2 · March 15, 2014

    • Joël D.

Yes it is. I got it yesterday. Was waiting for the Tamron[masked] but I waited too long and decided to go with the Sigma. So far I love it. The last shots here are made using it. http://500px.com/Dout...

      March 15, 2014

    • Aroop G.

Nice! I'm waiting for the new Tamron to go on sale. I'll be using an older Tamron[masked]

      March 15, 2014

  • Dan R.

Since I couldn't go on Sunday (and disappointed), I went today. Hope that doesn't violate rules. Didn't have much time to spend, had only my D7000 with me and a kit lens. I'm definitely interested in going back in the spring summer, I love this place. Count me in. Will post a few pix.

    March 14, 2014

  • Tammy M.

I'm looking forward to this, I take it we will recognize the group as they will be holding cameras!

    March 13, 2014

    • Aroop G.

Pretty much every visitor would be carrying a camera. I would suggest print the meetup logo on a letter sized sheet of paper and stick it on the rear window.

      Got mine as well, thanks!

      March 12, 2014

    • Jules

      Me too.

      March 12, 2014

  • Jules

Is there a group limit? I think I'm ready for some INSANITY.

    March 12, 2014

    • Jeff G.

No limit. The park is huuuuuuuuuge. While we will be travelling in separate vehicles, it's possible we'll never see each other if we were a group of 300... however, it is one big loop so we'll probably pass by. The only times we'll meetup in person with as a group is once at the very beginning in the parking lot and then at 3pm at the chalet to talk about our day's adventure.

Just a note to say there's a Groupon cheaper admission to Parc Omega. http://www.groupon.com/deals/parc-omega

I would love to attend but would like to go with someone for my first time or maybe I could provide a drive for another member. Awaiting a reply

    March 11, 2014

Hi Virginia I've been before so if you can drive I can navigate. I would suggest my car but the passanger window does not go down all the way. I live in Navan / Orleans

    • Virginia M.

HI JOHN, I am meeting Anne Marie at 8:30 at Place D'Orleans parking lot on Sunday Morning. If you would like to join us you can meet me across from the bus depot. I have a blue Saturn Aura. If you have an e mail address I can confirm the details.

      March 11, 2014

  • Anne M.

I would love to go as well but this is my first time and I would need a ride there and back

  • Debbie P.

Just fyi - the email I got said it was on Saturday the 15th, so be careful because the calendar will be wrong.

    March 11, 2014

    • Jeff G.

Yeah sorry about that. I had a request to move it to Sunday. Didn't realize the email went out.

      March 11, 2014

  • Debbie P.

I would like to get a ride from someone. I live in Dunrobin, but could meet anywhere along the way as long as there is a place to leave my car for the day. If anyone is going from Kanata, we could meet at the Eagleson park and ride for example.

    March 11, 2014

  • John W.

I have been before and BELIEVE me you don't want to miss this , it's AWESOME !!
