After belonging to other reading groups with much younger members I have come to realize that my life experiences and theirs are vastly different.
Being separated by several generations means you will have a very different take on the books you read. That would be fine if the younger people were open-minded enough to consider that I may know what I'm talking about when discussing housewives from the 50's. After all, my mother was one of them.
But they did not do that. They simply fed me the party line about what really happened during that time.
And that was the last time I attended those book meetings.
So, in a effort to offer people over 50 a group that will listen to them and respect their life experiences - as they pertain to the books they're reading - I am starting a new group.
The choice in reading material will be voted on by the members so be prepared to bring reviews of books you think we should read and discuss.
This is a group for people who enjoy reading, talking about the books they've read (even if it's just gossiping about Stephanie Plum) and hanging out with like-minded people.
This is also a group where you can freely speak your mind. No judgements are handed down and if you're not being completely PC we won't hold it against you.
If this is at all interesting to you please send me a note - or join the group - we'd love to see you.
***NOTE TO NEW AUTHORS***
We would be happy to consider reading your book as a monthly selection. However, we have a rule that no book will be considered unless it is available in the Decautr, Gwinnette and Fulton County Libraries.
If you are serious about haing your book read please donate at least 2 copies of your book to each of the library systems.
Thanks - and good luck with your writing endeavors.
