Our First New Jersey P&P

Please join us for our very first game in New Jersey! Now that the Par 3 Club is based in Metuchen, NJ (fear not - our games in NY will continue), the time has come to try out the Par 3 courses in the Garden State.

Based on internet research alone, I’ve selected Green Knoll in Bridgewater. It seems like a very nice course and the prices are reasonable. Since I’ve never actually played there, if any members have first-hand knowledge of this course please feel free to share. As always, players of all skill levels and first-timers are welcome!

Now for the 411:

Green Knoll Golf Course (a regulation, 18 hole, 6,443 yard course) also operates a 9 hole par three Pitch and Putt Course. A golf shop and snack bar are available.

Green Knoll is located at 587 Garretson Road, Bridgewater Township.

Price per person: $10.00 (this is the normal weekend rate)

Directions:
587 Garretson Road, Bridgewater, NJ 08807

From New York – Take the bridge or tunnel of your choice then follow the NJ directions below (or use your GPS):

From Route 287 Southbound:

Follow Route 287 South to Exit 17 (Somerville/Routes 202/206 South). Take the first exit off of Routes 202/206 - the sign will say Garretson Road. At the end of the exit ramp, make a right at the traffic light onto Commons Way. Follow to the end, and make a left at the traffic light onto Garretson Road. The entrance to Green Knoll will be approximately half a mile down the road on the right.

Northbound: Route 287 North to Exit 14B to Route 22 West. Follow Route 22 West into Bridgewater and make a right onto Country Club Road. Follow to the first light and make a right onto Garretson Road. The entrance to Green Knoll will be on the left.

From Route 22
Westbound:
Follow Route 22 West into Bridgewater and make a right onto Country Club Road. (It is the second light after passing the exit for Routes 202/206.) Follow to the first light, and make a right onto Garretson Road. The entrance to Green Knoll will be approximately half mile down the road on the left. Eastbound:

Follow Route 22 East through Branchburg. Make a right turn at the exit marked for Route 28. (It is the exit after Milltown Road.) At the base of the exit ramp, turn left onto Route 28 West, and immediately after passing under Route 22, make the first right at the median strip, and then bear left onto Garretson Road. The entrance to Green Knoll will be approximately half mile down the road on the left.

From 206
Northbound:
Follow Route 206 until the Somerville Circle. Exit off of the circle onto Route 28 West. Approximately two miles down Route 28, you will intersect Route 22. Stay on Route 28. The exit for Garretson Road is located at this same junction. Make a right onto Garretson Road, and the entrance to Green Knoll will be 1.5 miles down the road on the left.

From Route 78 Westbound:
Follow Route 78 West to Route 287 South. Then follow the above directions for Route 287 South. Eastbound:
Follow Route 78 to Route 287 South. Then follow the above directions for Route 287 South.

One more bit of instruction from Frank. When you get to the clubhouse ask about the pitch and putt. It's a little brown hut behind the clubhouse.

To my friends coming in from NYC via mass transit: NJ Transit - Northeast Corridor train #7833 - Departs NY Penn Station at 10:15am arrives in Metuchen NJ at 11:02am. If you get this train and let me know in advance (text me), I will pick you up at Metuchen Station at 11:02 and drive straight to Green Knoll. You MUST be on this train (if it's late I will wait for it). On Sunday's they run an hour apart.

Frank, thank you for offering a ride. I'll be on that train for sure! I'll text you once the train moves so you know all is well! :-))

Since this will be my first time at Green Knoll, I know nothing at all about the course (which I why I plan to get there early). If you have played this course before and know if something stronger than a pitching wedge is needed to tee off, or you can offer some insight about the course, please post here and share your knowledge. With thanks! :)

Frank, what happened, you moved from Bayside?

    • Frank

Moved the family to Metuchen. Never thought I would leave NY, but it is a beautiful area and with 2 kids kids, the extra room is much needed.

      July 15, 2014

If anyone wants to play the full course afterwards let me know!

With heavy heart, I have to announce the passing of my good friend, Ronald Feltenstein. He died peacefully on July 2. He will be truly missed.

    July 10, 2014

    • Frank

I am so very very sorry to hear that.

      July 10, 2014

  • Frank

Also, if you want to meet at Metuchen station, you can ride with me.

    May 30, 2014

    • Silvia

Thank you. I'll look for details on trains to Metuchen and let you know. :-))

      May 30, 2014

  • Frank

I looked for that, and what I found is that the nearest train station isn't what I would call "close." However, I will research this further and include busses in my search as well. If not, if any members are coming from NY perhaps they'd be willing to give a lift to another member.
