I have been itching to backpack Forest Glen again. It's a very lovely, rugged trail with two very nice backcountry campsites. There is water for filtering. Here is the schedule -
Arrive at Forest Glen at 6 pm Friday June 6th and backpack the two miles into the first campsite (this is for anyone who wants to camp two nights, as I am going to do - anyone who wants to join me is welcome to do so)
Saturday Morning I will hike out without packs (with anyone who wants to join me) to meet other backpackers arriving at 10 Am at the Ranger Station. We will then hike to the first camp site and grab our gear and hike another 6 miles to the second camp site. We will set up camp, filter water, find firewood, make our fire, eat and hang out. We may even go on a night hike (please remember to bring your headlamp or light source)
Sunday morning arise and eat a leisurely breakfast - pack up and hike around 4 miles to the Ranger Station (this trail is a loop). We typically go out to eat after our backpacks so that will be an option for everyone before they head home. I put an approximate end time of 4 pm but we may get done sooner depending on when we start Sunday morning.
You will need a tent or hammock, ground cloth, cooking equipment and food and a pack to carry it all in (no need to pack really heavy on a short trip such as this) In case it rains you need rain gear or a poncho. I will bring my stoves (pocket rocket and alcohol) and water filter. I do recommend bringing water - but I think we should be able to filter water as well.
I do recommend walking poles for this trail as it can be quite steep in a few places.
Any questions please call me at the above number. Due to the fact that we have to pre-register for this trail please RSVP in time for me to give a final count to Forest Glen. I believe there is also a charge for this trail but I need to do some more research on that - I think it might be around $10 a person but I will double check that.
