Racing and Camping at Road America

This race weekend will be my third of the season. It is a SCCA Majors Race weekend at Road America. Except for the National Championship Runoffs, this race is the single biggest race weekend of the season for the SCCA. Road America is a beautiful, park like facility that is a great place to visit and hike. It is picturesque, hilly, and a large facility. The towns and countryside around are great places to visit, too. This is an outdoor weekend that features camping, hiking, and road racing. I will instruct whoever comes on what will need to be done regarding the car. There is not a whole lot that has to be done if all goes well. The things that I would ask you to do are within the ability of every member of the group. We will meet here and leave together. If more than 7 people come, I will need someone else to drive their car. The race weekend starts on a Friday, but it people want to come on Saturday or Sunday, it is fine. We will head up, set up at the track, set up camp, and then I will take everyone out to dinner. As for staying at the track, this track does have showers, so it is an option for those that want to camp. I am planning on camping at the track at all my races this year. If you need to stay at a hotel, we can discuss it. I also need to know in advance to get you in the track on my crew list. Bring clothes you will be comfortable outdoors in, as well as the usual sunscreen, bug spray, liquids, etc.  In order to enter pit lane, you must have closed toe shoes and a shirt with some sort of sleeve over the shoulder. You may bring other clothes to wear and change as you see fit. Wear clothes you will not mind getting a little dirty. You may also want to bring a folding chair for yourself. I have chairs for five. I will have plenty of room in the van for all of our stuff. Also, conduct yourself professionally at all times. I am responsible for the conduct of my guests and will be penalized for any misconduct, which includes bad language and confrontations with other competitors, officials, or workers. There is no alcohol allowed until after running is done for the day. Feel free to hike around the grounds as much as you want. After the cars are done running for the day, we can hike the track. Saturday dinner will be provided at the track, or we can head into one of the great restaurants in town.

It should be a great time!
