Let's get to know each other and find out what people desire from this group.

This is an initial, introductory meeting. We'll discuss 3D printing, answer questions, get to know everyone and determine how we want to move forward. Bring your curiosity, questions and, most importantly, yourself! If you have a 3D printer, bring along some prints you're proud of.

I think it would be interesting to discuss making 3D printing more accessible for people with ideas. Many people have ideas, but lack the experience and practical knowledge required to create 3D geometry.

For those making it, look for the tall guy in the bright orange Ben Franklin with a boombox t-shirt. That'll be me. See you at 7!

Unfortunately I've found I can't make this evening's event. Very interested in the meetup & hope to catch future meetups. Hive76 or NextFab might be good locations.

What works best for people in terms of days and times? I'm thinking either a Saturday morning or an evening during the week. There's easy access via SEPTA as well as a surface lot a block away on Fairmount Ave. I'm open to other locations as well, but OCF has good space for a small group. Post up your comments and suggestions!

4th or else last Saturday morning of the month is good for me (I actually have groups that meet on the first three saturdays of each month! including one that I run. :)) Evenings are getting booked up in the tech space, especially Tuesday thru Thursday. Mondays are less crowded.

You asked for questions, herewith: 1) what are the most popular 3d printers? advantages, disadvantages of each?
    2) how do you drive them? what software is required?
    3) how fine grained are the results? what is the resolution of the printers?
    4) how durable are the resulting strutters? say on a scale of: can support weight of butterfly for short periods of time to adequate as replacement for kevlar in arctic battlefields.
    5) size range? what part of size range from flea to Galapagos Tortoise is achievable?

    Thanks!

    John

John, those are good questions and I think we can have a discussion on them. Have a look at the Maker Magazine Guide to 3D Printers in terms of some of the current popular ones: http://www.makershed....
