Pin-Up at the Nifty

The July event for the Philadelphia Glamour Photography Group will be a very special pin-up theme shoot. The PGPG has gained access to Nifty Fifty’s, a retro style diner in northeast Philadelphia with great food, cool attractions, and a great ambiance. This location is special not just because of the retro diner look and feel, but also because they have a wonderful mini-golf course and a game room on their premises. Models attending this shoot will bring their best pinup looks to the event. Photographers will have access to the diner and models via a rotation, as the diner will be open for business while we shoot. We will have a secured section of booths and diner stools to use, so with a proactive rotation, everyone will get a chance to shoot in the diner. The game room and the mini-golf areas will offer some added novelty shots, so we don’t have to mitigate the rotation in those areas. The parking lot out back will have plenty of room for a few classic cars (yes, we are booking a few classic cars as well), so we will be adding several unique perks to this event. Updates will be added to this listing as we progress towards the shoot date.

Update:  We are only charging the Photographers and models the “participation” fee.  Models and photographers are allowed to bring escorts or guests at no-charge.  But we politely request you explain the no-photos to your guests unless they are registered as a photographer with our group or paid as an attending guest photographer.

Key points for this event:

- MODELS: some wardrobe will be provided. Please contact Kristina and Tiffany if you need help with pinup style clothing. If you are signing up, please email us with your sizes & measurements for the availability of what is presently on hand. This event is a pin-up theme, so prospective models should have the proper era clothes when signing up. Other resources will be posted shortly to help those that may not have the correct clothes. If you are a model that wants to participate, please contact us for information on how to get the correct outfit for this event. The model cost for this shoot is $20, so to be listed in the event roster you will need to sign up via Paypal. This will help to keep the no-show/last minute cancellation level to a minimum. This event will be advertised far beyond the Meet Up site, so those that are listed will be highly anticipated.

- PHOTOGRAPHERS: part of our access to the diner requires a few shots to be given to Nifty Fifty’s for their own promotion. Photographers should of course watermark their images, but all photographers will be required to give at least TWO images to Nifty Fifty’s for their promotional use (emphasis on the promotional usage only; watermark any image you submit). The manager of Nifty Fifty’s is a wonderful individual, and is very excited about this event. He is assisting via helping us to acquire some classic cars as props. Joe will collect the images to present to the diner management by the end of the 30 day mark after the event.

-parking for this event requires us to use the far back lot of the Nifty Fifty property. This is not a far walk at all to the diner, but please use their back lot for parking. Parking is FREE, and free is good, but with so many perks being added to the shoot, we will encourage an early arrival and if possible, car pooling.

-we will have participation from some special vendors for this event, so please check back periodically for updates. There are some interesting things in the works with this…

- the diner will be open while we shoot, so please work around any customers. The general excitement of a shoot will likely add to any customer’s experience, so know that you are almost performing for the observers delight. If you grab anyone to join your photo, please have them sign in first.

-ALL PARTICIPANTS must sign in, and provide a valid email address and phone number.

I put together Nifty photos to create a music video based on "If Your Man Messes Up" by the Deb Callahan Band. Deb graciously gave me permission to use her song in the video. You can view it at:

Absolutely fantastic day. I met so many new and wonderful people. The entire event was handled beautifully. Great organization. Many thanks to Albert and Joe for running a flawless meet-up!

Models: please use your pdf files for following up with the photographers. There is a 30 day window for image distribution, so please know that some photogs may have a quick return, while others will need that time frame.

Wow! This was a fun meetup shoot. Thanks to Albert and Joe for successfully fusing all the elements together. It was a blast. Great models, wardrobe, props, makeup, hair, we cannot do this without you. Thanks to car club and Nifty Fifty too. Good to see so many friendly photographers and models working together and enjoying the experience. I won't say anything about the heat.

Yes, Moms (and dads too) deserve many thanks. Most athletes and those involved in the arts have the commitment, love and support of the parents. This truly contributes to creating opportunities. It's not always easy. Thanks mom!

  • AGH

A quick moment of praise for the moms that have been supporting the group at the past few events (i.e. the Grahams, the Jensens, the Beaches, the McCues, and any others I may be missing). We have a few moms now who have been very active in helping their daughter-models with the events, and it is great to see them give such encouragement. Setting a strong example of support is a wonderful contribution to the overall environment, and is greatly appreciated. :0)

This event marked the 100th for the PGPG, and it was quite a show stopper. The hardest working mua's/hair stylists I've ever seen, a killer wardrobe selection, fantastic models consisting of new and familiar faces, and some of the best of the greater Philly area photographers. The heat was brutal, but it didn't stop the show, and that is what is so impressive. The dedication of a few sets the bar high for many. Kudos to Aces & Eights Car Club, Nifty Fifty's Diner, Vintage Beauty Clothing, Astro Vintage, and Mode Merr Vintage Clothing for their support in this event. And of course to the many others who without their support this event could not have happened.

Started out a bit unorganized but picked up with nice speed. Needed a few more hair & make up artists for so many models & maybe next time a time slot for models & photogs together so all get to shoot with everyone, not sure how to do it but can think on it. There has to be a way, kind of like the schedule for the inside went. Some of the models never got to shoot with some photogs and some of the photogs had their favorites & didn't shoot the others (that I heard from another on looker). All in all we had fun even though we got fried & my normally cold daughter was cooking like her mom usually does. She just got to see what it was like for me when I was younger & what I had to wear. Hah Hah Hah!!!! Even I got fried & I was in the shade most of the time. Will try to make it back for another one soon. We enjoy everyone that participates & the idea of hair & make up being provided is great. Thanks again for a wonderful time & can't wait for the pics of EVERYONE. Mom & Ash

Great opportunities cars, games, put put, for pictures. Tooooo hot. Quote of the day from Frank: "No, not her butt, because I can't see it."

Where to begin to tell about another wonderful shoot with a great group of people. The day was hot with the weather and models, with a wide range of ourdoor areas to shot, plus a 50's style diner including game room. Era clothing and cars provided to give the event the style and mood of the time. Plenty of one on one shooting with the models who had just as much, if not more fun than the photographers.

Also, if you browse the list of models and photogs, you will see some of the best ever in the Philly (or beyond) area. It's what makes this group so damn awesome, and it's what gives it such a high rating. Kristina (call her Kristinia, as I seem to butcher her name alot) has done an amazing job coordinating the wardrobe, and with Vivian and the others kicking in with hair/mua skills, this is a shoot that will likely change lives. And bring world peace. And maybe even bring back Elvis...

Alison, you can email me, but here is some info:
-yes, there is a rotation, which will formulate once we have the full photog count, which will be after 6pm on Sat
-working with each model? You are energetic! It just all depends.
-yes to your own equipment. The diner portion is the most sensitive, as the diner will be open, so we recommend being as agile as possible.
-this is our 100th event, so it's a bit of a milestone. Your first will be exceptional.

    July 28, 2011

  • Alison G.

Hey all! As this would be my first event with the group, just have a few questions! How does the shooting work for the photographers since there are quite a few, is there a rotation? Will we get a chance to work with each model? And do we bring our own equipment set up for the inside? (I have very little lighting equipment :/ ) Otherwise this shoot sounds awesome and I just need to make sure the schedule is clear and I'll be signing up!! thanks!

    July 28, 2011

  • Frank S.

Cudos to Alber and Joe for having the vision to make a shoot like this happen. And additional thanks in advance to all the people that are helping in so many different ways. Hmmm... maybe this is the "Spirit of Philadelphia"!

  • AGH

Michelle, photographers pay the $90 entry fee via doing the RSVP function in the site, or by contacting Joe or myself. Models have a $20 entry fee, but we are presently capped on the model count unless we get a few more photographers to sign up. Please feel free to email us with any questions you may have.

This meetup started in the head of the group leaders and has snowballed into a monster of a shoot. Three day to go and I'm on pins and needles waiting. Joe and Albert I love you for the joy you bring to this photographer.

    July 28, 2011

  • Michelle M.

To make sure I understand fully, we have to pay $90 to who, so we can attend this event?

I was extremely excited for this shoot, but I'm scheduled for work :( Complete bummer.

Models, please coordinate your wardrobe with Kristina. If you are not borrowing wardrobe from KP, and you want to bring your own, please have KP review your selection. This event will closely adhere to the true pinup looks, so there will be ZERO nudes, no modern day props, and no modern day clothes. There will be a very important orientation at exactly 11am, and if you miss that orientation we will turn you into a milkshake for consumption by the masses. :o)

FYI on the wardrobe contributions...we have some great support via coupon codes for ordering (more of those on the way), and local stores via loaning some product. Please "Like" any of their Facebook fanpages, and mention the PGPG as your source of notice. These are great sponsors, and are looking forward to helping out.
