Photato Salad - Part Deux

  • August 21, 2011 · 10:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Weather for today a very minimal concern.  Rain AFTER 4 PM.  New Forecast by National Weather Service:

"Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Calm wind becoming south between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible."

With Summer T'Storm's it can rain cats and dogs in one spot and be bone dry a mile away.

This will be a very loosely structured event without organizers participation.   It will be a “Pot Luck” opportunity to socialize and take a few photos with the models who have indicated they are attending.

- Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

-  Everyone will bring their own picnic lunch and drink.   No “covered dish” event.

-  Photographers:   Bring any portable equipment you can carry.   No electricity available so everything will need to be battery powered.

-  Models:  Not sure if any MUA or Hair Stylist are attending. Be prepared to do your own.

-  Obey all Park Rules.

-  There is a very nice stream down the trail from Picnic area 9.   Be prepared to get wet and have fun, but be safe.

Read the below link for all things available for photos at the park.

Well I certainly got my cardio workout in. Rain cut it short but I was able to shoot a little before the torrents. Lots of 4bucks in the area for a cool down afterwards.

Kudos to the park ranger for finding Melissa's jewelry. How often can one lose items like that and have them returned? That shows the park rangers at Ridley Creek are extremely ethical.

I would say that an event like this past Sun. seemed amazing, but fast paced for slower creative thoughts that may have been a part of 1st time attenders. The rumble of thunder, drips and then Tsunami around 3:00 made many of us a bit hasty. All of the photo posts i have seen were quality work. I shall get some of mine up shortly.Next year, a better mindset is needed for myself with better understanding of the terrain.

Due to externalities, this was our first 'wild card' meetup, and it went pretty good. Rain hit us at approximately 4pm, but that still gave plenty of time for the folks on hand to get some great shots. This group is just the best. Photato Salad Trois will be even bigger next year. :0)

Joe and Al once again, thank you for the professional touch you give to the best group in the area. It was great to see old friends and meet a few new friends today. The weather could not hold back this unstoppable group of talent who delivered yet again, another 5 star group shoot full of conversation, laughs, enthusiasm, and great photos.

I don't see cloudy weather as a bad thing. Overcast skys let me knock back the ambient easier and go for a nice key shifted feel with my strobes. pray the rain holds off, and don't sweat the 'bad' weather.

If the photo world was perfect, it would be always inside free of bugs, heat, cold and dampness.I am prepared to shoot albeit outdoors wet or not. I won't get as many chance as if it were sunny and 76, but I try. Models, try to be patient bu also bringing some shorts and a cut off top and let wetness be the theme. At least we all get to "meetup" and exchange greetings and info.Who would have thought Mid Aug would be torrential constant rain?I am bringing a mirror and 2 umbrellas also. Best 2 all

    August 20, 2011

  • Melissa B.

I'm bringing some clothing I'd prefer to keep dry. Plus make up running down my face is not pretty.

    August 20, 2011

  • james s.

or we could just brave the rain and everyone get soaked for a photo opt

    August 20, 2011

  • Daniel

    Umbrella maybe? ;)

    August 20, 2011

  • Melissa B.

It looks like there's an 80% chance of rain. Now what??

    August 20, 2011

  • Laura G.

I'm not going to be able to make it after all. I have to photograph in Center City now for a website. But have fun everyone!

    August 19, 2011

Just a word or precaution at the risk of sounding like your mom, but bring _good_ bug spray. I've been to Ridley Creek often and there are _lots_ of ticks there. I've even seen them crawling up sign posts. Just be sure to check yourself after you get home in all your various nooks and crannies and you should be ok.

Does anybody know if it's allowed to setup a couple light stands and bring some monolights? Thinking about breaking out my new beauty dish

Is there a mapped out way to get to area #9 as I see this park is 2,600 acres of land and I've never been there.

    August 18, 2011

Been waiting for this one but as luck would have won't be able to come because of scheduling conflict. Patiently waiting for the next one.

Models: please use your pdf files for following up with the photographers. There is a 30 day window for image distribution, so please know that some photogs may have a quick return, while others will need that time frame. This is the routine for the monthly events.

2 quick things: the only caveat for the August shoot is no nudes. It's a public place, and the park rangers will be every where. Also, my email was hacked, so if y'all get a query for money from me, well, just ignore it. :o)

    August 8, 2011

Jennie Cupcakes, The only theme is you and what you can do with a whole lot of space and natural props. I went last year and the location has dreams areas for shooting. You will enjoy it more than you know.
