Better Digital Development

Better Digital Development (aka Effective High-Volume Post Production)

The March event for the PGPG (also posted in the Tri-State group) is a technology-oriented event. Better Digital Development, led by Will Stotler, will focus on how to post produce large amounts of digital images with a simple and efficient methodology. Using Lightroom as the main software tool (with correlations to Aperture and other programs), participants will get a chance to click some basic images of the models on hand. The brunt of the workshop will be to then post produce those images with the batch methodology discussed by Will. Essential gear for this workshop will be a camera and a laptop computer. If you don’t have a lap top, certainly bring a notepad to take notes.

Participants are encouraged to have questions about post production efficiency. Digital cameras enable the clicking of many photos, but sometimes having a large capacity card may hold you back because of the propensity for too much clicking. Sorting through many images after a shoot can be daunting unless you have a system. Gaining new insight in to post production processes can help many who are looking for ways to tweak their time to save on resources. Models will be added as we lead up to the event, and light refreshments will be on hand.

Note: laptops are STRONGLY encouraged for this event.

Event schedule:

-shooting with the models; for this exercise, it is actually ok to over-click, so that you can then use the classroom portion of the day to sift through the images you created.

-classroom time with Will as he leads the group through his methodology of managing the post production workflow; use your laptops to follow along, or take as many notes as you can.

Will always puts much thought into what information he communicates to the group when instructing, so kudos to him for committing the time and effort into yet another productive workshop. The small group at this one was a great fit, and I think everyone walked away with more insight into the effort of post production. Kudos also to Samantha and Steven, our models of the day; they have placed themselves in the 'shows up, works hard, must work with again' group, and both were just a joy to have on set. Tina yet again shined as an MUA, and has proven herself to be one of the absolutes on the scene. She works hard, takes pride in her work, and engages the photographers for feedback. I always find some new inspiration from each event, and this one was no different. Great participants, great discussions, and great fun in watching everyone advance their respective interests in the arts.

It addressed a real problem I to begin to work with the hundreds of photos after a shoot. Also how to narrow down that "shot". It was great shooting Sam as well. Great outfit! Great poses!

I wasn't sure how to post a message to the group outside of these event specific threads. I was sent this and thought it may be be of interest to other photographers in addition to other artists. Check it out:
