  • This location is shown only to members

Barakka will be performing their Turkish folk-rock with a mix of eastern and western instrumentation at Penn Museum's verdant outdoor courtyard space.

The $10 ticket includes full museum admission as well with all galleries being open till 8. Get one on one time with the mummies.

They also sell beer/wine/refreshments and overall a great ambiance. All cash.

Concert starts at 5pm, but setting meetup start time at 5:30. Feel free to come early.

If it rains, the concert moves indoors to the magnificent Sphinx Hall. It did last year and it was amazing to hear this mideast band play in front of the Sphinx statue:-)

Their performance features original pieces by Baris Kaya, as well as innovative interpretations of traditional Turkish folk music.

If you you take membership at the desk in the Egypt gallery, they will refund you the ticket price. Individual membership is $55. I took mine since it makes up for next 4 concerts.

Wednesday nights are good for several different events. The After 5 at the PMA, and the concerts at the Penn Museum are two. Will these be put up here, or will we just go on our own?

ArtAfter5 is on Friday. If you would like, feel free to suggest/host the Zydeco event on the GotCulture meetup. I can remove the NerdNite meetup from GotCulture. Within one meetup group, I won't post events that conflict in time. Also, once we get beyond 3 meetups per week, the volume of emails and reminders can be off putting.

Great music, good topical beers, middle eastern food and most of all, the company. Particularly enjoyed the tour of mesoamerica, Iraq and China during intermission.
The music was good but the acoustics could have been better.
The next event I plan to have is for the WPO concert end of July. Hope it stays dry.

So much fun to be in the museum for the first time. Great to chat with interesting people! I will definitely be back to the museum, the concerts (hopefully outdoors next time), and future meetups.

Very nice. Good people, interesting music, and the museum tour was not only educational but unexpectedly humorous and quite...entertaining! :)

Event is at Upper Egypt gallery. One table has meetup sign. Ask anyone at the table to introduce you to others.

Tips for meeting today. Since rains are likely, the concert probably will be inside the great sphinx hall, which is an ideal locale to hear middle eastern music :-)
The concert starts at 5, our meetup at 5:30. Feel free to come early and enjoy the show. The galleries in the museum will also be open if you want to take a break from the music.
Once I get there, will try to corner a table and put a meetup sign. If not, look for me. Will be wearing a deep blue shirt and green ILoveScience button and holding meetup sign somewhere on me.

Also keep in mind that the museum collects $10 in cash at the gates and will also have a cash bar. Not sure if they have an ATM inside.
Between the GotCulture and ScienceSociety groups, we have many signups. Hope most can make it.

Yes. And tonight's is caribbean funk. Thanks for joining the Got Culture meetup. If you want, you can start posting/hosting meetups on that group for these Wed concerts. Also been trying to get people together for Art After 5, so that may work out for you as well.

My guests are from the GotCulture meetup.
As summer drags on and the students and staff take a break, we will have more concerts and happy hours to take the place of presentations. The science cafes will resume in late summer.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
