This is a 60-minute kickboxing class for both male & female beginners with no experience and novices with under 1 year of training. We'll start with a warmup & stretching, then I'll show you the basic stance, footwork, and strikes used in kickboxing. Techniques are primarily drawn from Muay Thai (Thailand's devastating form of kickboxing that incorporates knee & elbow strikes) and San Shou (China's kickboxing style that allows a variety of throws & sweeps). Then we'll pair up and take turns holding kickboxing pads (which I'll provide) so your partner can practice his/her striking. The pad work will take up most of our class time, and will give you an awesome workout and help build muscle memory for the basic strikes & combos. We'll finish up with a cool down, some calisthenics, and a brief Q&A session.
This class will definitely get your heart rate up & have you sweating, so wear comfortable gym clothes. There's a locker room with lockers to store your belongings, so bring a padlock, and there's showers available for those who want to use them. Other than a padlock and gym clothes, you'll need to purchase a mouthguard & bag gloves ($20-25 total at your local sporting goods store) and wear them during class for safety purposes. You'll also need to sign a standard release waiver, but YOUR FIRST CLASS IS FREE so don't worry about payment if it's your first time. After that, it's just $10/class and pay as you go - i.e. unlike most martial arts schools, there's no contract.
