Hello all; I'm just chiming in to thank everybody for the help during last month's meetup. If any of you care to hear the fruits of that labor, I'll be giving a talk on secular ethics and skepticism at the Atlanta Skeptics meetup at Manuel's Tavern at 602 N Highland Avenue Northeast this Saturday (10/19) with socialization at 6:00 and talk to begin at 7:00.

Sorry for the miss this month; I'll try again in November.

Quick edit: Evans was not the Australian PM, but was the Minister for Foreign Affairs through the mid-90's; roughly the equivalent of our Secretary of State.

    Hello all,

Enjoyed the meetup. It occurred to me on the walk home that a slightly better way to frame the initial question last night would have been to concentrate on the presuppositions involved in questions of foreign intervention. For those of you interested in exploring the topic, there is a huge literature out there on what's called the "Responsibility to Protect" Doctrine, or RTP for short. (So, with the usual caveats, the Wikipedia entry is a useful, though extremely limited: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Responsibility_to_protect.) There's a really excellent panel discussion on it, from, I believe some time in 2009, that includes former Australian PM Gareth Evans and Noam Chomsky, a leading critic, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RS9bSUdW6b4. It's worth a gander.

    Best,
    Blinn

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
