Celebrating  NFR's
[masked] -Best Valley Indies!

Great film this Thursday and don’t forget we have an excellent show on Thanksgiving weekend Saturday, too…and then…NFR goes on hiatus until January. Catch the films your friends will brag to you about seeing if you don’t go.

Before I post info to this week’s screening of The Apple Pushers, a short note about a film screening at The Trunk Space.  I booked Alexis Gideon when I worked at FilmBar and his combination of animation and music and singing played along with the film was wonderful. Here’s the info:

Sun. Nov. 18th, 7pm: Alexis Gideon creates animated films, and has collaborated with Cynthia Star (Coraline, Moral Orel, Robot Chicken), and Ezra Clayton Daniels (Darkhorse Comics, Top Shelf Comics).
Alexis is on tour promoting his new video opera "Video Musics III: Floating Oceans"  based on the works of the early 20th century Irish writer Lord Dunsany and inspired by the time and dream experiments of the Irish physicist John William Dunne.

With local performers Mary K. Zeeb, Christian Filardo, SGJ, and Clay Martin.
$6 per person
We are located at:
1506 NW Grand Ave
right next to Bikini Lounge!

No Festival Required and Building Community Cinema Presents
“The Apple Pushers”, a film by Mary Mazzio
Thursday, November 15,[masked]pm(doors at 6:30pm)
Free Admission
Icehouse Phoenix
429 West Jackson St. Phoenix, Arizona

Sponsored by Phoenix Revitalization Corporation and
Butler Housing Company
The Apple Pushers, written and directed by Mary Mazzio, narrated by Academy Award nominee Edward Norton, and underwritten by the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund, follows immigrant street vendors who are rolling fresh fruits and vegetables into the inner cities of New York (where finding a fresh red ripe apple can be a serious challenge).
Through the lens of their powerful and deeply personal stories, the film examines such hot-button issues as food access, the obesity crisis, immigration, entrepreneurship, and what it really takes to achieve the American Dream.
The film not only addresses the issue of food deserts where low income residents have little access to fresh fruits and vegetables – but also the issue of immigrants and what they do for our country.
"Emotionally, the film packs a wallop," - Tracie McMillan (The Atlantic).
The Apple Pushers, which is at the intersection of food access, immigration, and entrepreneurship, is produced by Mary Mazzio along with Tom Scott (founder of Nantucket Nectars and CEO of PLUM TV) and Christine Vachon (producer of Mildred Pierce and the Academy Award-winning Boys Don't Cry). Executive Producer – Laurie Tisch.
