Sadly, several San Diego theatre meetups seem to have foundered or failed over the past year. I’ve been wondering why. My thoughts:
1. Coordinating group activities where money has to change hands for tickets is EXTREMELY cumbersome.
2. Going to the theatre is intrinsically, not very social. Patrons sit quietly in the dark and observe the performance onstage. Since meetups are about being social, meeting to sit quietly in the dark completely misses the point.
3.The FUN part about theatre with friends is TALKING about it afterwards . . . over a cocktail . . . or a piece of pie.
Hence “The Pie’s the Thing”!
Every few weeks or so, I’ll select a date to see what I think are the hottest live theatre tickets in town (and believe me, I’m PICKY). I’ll also include any available discount ticket options. No money changes hands within the meetup group. It is up to members to get their own tickets. After the show, we meet up! Make sense?
Let’s see if we can drum up any sustainable interest this way, shall we?
Our inaugural event will be in January of 2009 (No, not THAT inaugural event!). WATCH THIS SPACE for details!
This group doesn't have any additional upcoming Meetups scheduled.
This group doesn't have any past Meetups, yet.
