Re: [french-851] Future of the group?

I may be able to provide a place to meet on a weeknight once a week or bi-weekly (house on the East End) but need help with providing refreshments (house poor I think they call it? lol). Regardless of whether it's at my place or not, a suggestion using my own space as an example:

I envision using 3 downstairs rooms divided into Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced with some designated "floaters" (perhaps from the advanced group going into intermediate, and intermediates going into the beginner) sharing duties interacting and guiding the two groups for 20 minute periods or something like that... I think that's what's missing from most groups, and the less advanced end up practically not really improving because nobody takes the time to guide and interact with them while all the skilled speakers just chat away amongst each other. With this tiered level suggestion and floating members (though all can of course float as desired) I think that could be much more of an efficient use of the time invested in meeting up, especially by the up and coming speakers (who really determine the proliferation of the language ultimately).

I also suggest 60, 75 or 90 minute meetings, based on my Spanish group experience... two hours IMO is just too long...

Also, I don' t understand why an establishment hosting the meetup, where people are spending money, would not be willing to "sponsor" the meetup group by paying any fees... seems not unreasonable... does it?

looking forward to seeing something happen! :)

a bientot j'espere!

John Alphonse

I also would love to practice listening and speaking.  I took a little refresher of my h.s. French in the spring, but didn't get to speak as much as I would have liked.  I didn't attend the lunch on Sat. because I was afraid that after introducing myself, I would have to just sit silently and listen.  So I agree with Martha and Jenita - I'd like practice with those at or just above my level.

Salut!
Email works fine for me, so please keep me on the email list.  My email

together who are "still learning to speak french" to practice & learn!  I
studied french in HS & college (but 35 years ago) & now have a renewed
interest.     Martha Briggs
